Modbase.be has just wrapped up their previous mapping contest using the Call of Duty game series. Now, they are ready for another. This time the prize is a MyBook external hard drive 320 GB. Pretty nice prize for building a map for Call of Duty (any version I think).

Now, don't be surprised when you see the site is not in English. However, that doesn't mean you can't participate (at least that's what I think). Check out this page for details .

Let me just translate this for you.

The Assignment:

We got a prize here for the winner of the match. To win the prize, you need to remake a photo in CodRadiant, grayradiant, or Cod2RAdiant. You need to make it look exactly and realisticly the same in order to win. The photo is given by us and is the same for everyone. When its finished, you take a screenshot of your map in the same angle as the photo is taken and place this together with your map file in a rar or zip file.
You must submit your entry before 11 april. The prize is an Mybook from WD, an external harddisk of 320 GB.

The photo you need to remake (like..create the same photo, as realisticly as possible) is on this page (only to be seen by those who are logged in.)
http://modbase.be/viewpage.php?page_id=113

Tips:
- Make sure your screenshot dont have a resolution lower than 800x600, we recommend 1024x786 or higher.
- See to it that you use a good brush structure, cause when we have 2 opponents with relatively the same image, we will check that out (or something)
- If you create a skybox and worldspawn settings, place those in a text file and include it in your zip or rar file.
- Use of custom textures and models is permitted, but you have to include these in your zip or rar file.
- Dont use prefabs.
- You mustn't add a version number to your map, but make sure it does compile if we have to.
- If you add moving-objects in your map, please comment it in your script file in your rar or zip file. You wont get extra points by doing this as a photo is static.
- You musnt make more than that is viewable on the photo.
- You can post progress on the forums, but keep in mind that others can see how you did it.

This is the best I can do for you :)
I find it a bit strange though, I dont think its supposed to be for non-natives:
If your the winner of the contest, we shall ask you for your details so we can give you the prize. Failure to reply when asking for the details, the prize will go the person on the 2nd place.
I guess you should ask them.

That helps a lot. Thanks.
Stijn G is a frequent visitor here at MODSonline so I hope he can elaborate on who can participate.

Not like I really have the time to enter but I don't like the idea of remaking a map from a photo. Sure it would be easier to judge, and if you wanted a map based on the photo you're sure to get at least one good one. However, three, ten, five or however many maps all very similar isn't really the best for the community.

Dang, I really need to get back into mapping.

I like the idea as an exercise in mapping. It helps you to learn how to better remake something that is either real or in your mind. It also should get you to create custom textures which is a valuable resource.

As for this being a means of creating a fun map to play, I wouldn't expect it. It is a good educational tool.

I have to agree with you here foyleman.
I'm also a member of modbase. because I'm dutch obviously.
I appreciate you guys putting this in the news section.
I find it sometimes hard to understand some of the technical terms used here.So I frequently visit modbase.be to see if they have the answer I'm looking for.
I'd like to think of me as someone who knows english, but as I said before some terms??.
And your comment on thinking of it as an exercice well...that just nailed it.
So in short thank you very much!!

Hi, I'm the founder of Modbase.be
It's not a 250 GB HD , but a 320 GB HD ;)

I also agree with foyleman. This is a very good way to exercise in mapping. Ofcourse like filbert says, the maps will all be very similar, but then the details are very important, and that's what many people need to learn. Learn to use details into your map and not just put some buildings and done ...
