elim writes...Quote: i am a little miffed by your question... are you altering other peoples maps ?? if so did you ask them if its ok... secondly if your useing the editor click file load and load the model in. instead of right clicking grid misc/model
this way it imports the clip texture around the object making it solid.....
if your adding items via a gsc you maye be able to add a brush called clip or clip_metal depending on what model it is
I don't know why you would be miffed. I'm talking about adding some items to a map that we enjoy (and appreciate). When I say "we" I am talking about two other players that join me once a week in a LAN game. These three machines are the only ones that ever see the mods - not the public. So why is that a problem? Have you never changed anything on any item loaded onto your computer?
Anyway,,, thanks for the mod tip. |

Elim is correct...
You are hacking the intellectual property of another mapper. The common standards and procedures of the business, i.e. mapping and modding IW's CoD series, dictate that you contact the mapper/modder and get permission to modify his/her intellectual property. I am not trying to mess with you, just let you know that you are making a minor mistake. The LAN that you play on is cool, no one would know, however, you chose to put your activities out to the general public with your post.
Almost all of the maps have the mappers name and website on them, the common procedure is to simply PM the person and let him know what you are doing. 9 times out of 10 the mapper will help you out and there will be no probs. I am not trying to flame you or put you down...kudos on having the ability to work with the scripting,,,just get with the mapper and let him know.
In addition, your scripting skills might be needed for many on the Scripting forum or in the Level Design forum to help others with these horrible scripting problems many of us have....
Good job, and I look forward to any help you can give! |

Wow, my innocent but naive question seems to have created a minor stir. I see your point though so I'll refrain from discussiing modding thru GSCs in the future. |

hmmmm
i take a slightly different view on this, as you can create a mod that inserts random items into any map and noone says anything (sometimes it gets rave reviews (AWE spawns plane and tripwires and can add or remove minefields+more)- yet if you make a mod that inserts a certrain model into a certain location you are doing something worse?
i see no real reason to become upset with a mod, UNLESS (and it is a big unless) the person making the mod is attemptng to claim to be an author to something which he/she is not.
that would be the line that we be crossed into the usavoury world of intellectual property theft, and incur the wrath of all mappers and modders everywhere
