Hey...

Basically I am doing my dissertation at University in the next coming months into the effects of sound and audio on a players game experience, and have decided to use the Doom 3 engine as my primary method of experimentation. I have been following the tutorials on this site for the last week or so and have built up a solid understanding of the engine itself...

But, I can't seem to find how to import my own custom sounds into the engine...I have looked for folders that might give me a clue, but to no avail ;(

If there is a way to import my own custom sounds, I would very much appreciate a reply, as if it isn't possible I may have to completely rethink my method of working [cry]

Anyways,

Thanks very much in advance :)

Phil.

Create a folder named 'sound' inthe base folder of the game.

Make sure your audio file is in .ogg or .wav format and put it in the sound folder.

Next, create a new text document and name it something like mysounds.sndshd. Say your music/sound was called 'test' (for example's sake). You would put:

Code:
Quote:
test{
minDistance 1
maxDistance 15
volume 3

sound/test.ogg
}

test.ogg can be test.wav, if it's .wav file. Make sure your audio file has no spaces in the title.

When you go into DOOMEdit and look in Sounds>Sound Shaders, scroll down and you should see a folder called mysounds (the name of the text file). Open that and the sound test should be there, available to use.

If when you test this new file in the game and you hear a beeping sound, that means the game either can't find the audio file or the audio file is in a format that it doesn't understand.
