Im trying to finish my map but I have a slight problem with max_map_visibility exceeded at <2097152>

I have tried to select everything in the room that isnt ceiling, floor or walls and hit ctrl-shift-d like the tuts say and have tried it via the toolbar " make detail"

When I do the above on the selected and then unselect the item it disappears but when I bring the filter D for detail back then the object returns and never does turn green in the 2d window.

I have gotten some brushes like wooden planks to turn green but my question as is stated in the title can I change any models that I have selected into detail?

I have placed the finished map bsp on my computer server and ran the game from the final .iwd and the map runs fine with good fps and no errors in the console.

I stand to be corrected here but I believe xmodels are classed as detail anyway.

likewise i could be wrong, but whenever i "ctrl shift d" models to make them detail, they always rebounce so to speak as structural, and again when in game they are drawn regardless of whether they are in portals or not, which a detail brush woyuldnt b , if you ctach my drift, lol

Because the model isn't actually a brush, you can't make it detail / structural etc. Models do not affect vis size because of this, and if the whole model is in a sealed portal cell, and is blocked from view by a structural brush, it will not be drawn. The only thing (in my experience) that was not affected by portalling are effects.

Pedro is right models are classed as detail just as patches are. This cannot be changed.

However there is a problem wih them with regards to portalling - they can disappear in game (a bombsite in Caen does this).

Now as I understand this it can be caused by a model crossing two portal areas (ie the portal goes through the model) or by poor use of caulk brushes when portalling or by too many models in a portal cell.
