let me tell ya, you don't want to give your map file out to people. second. you would be much better off if you study how portals work then try them out yourself. there are alot of info on portals on this website. even some video tutorials on them. and written tuts. I am just now starting to understand them and they give me a hard time as well. If you read about them you will learn that they can't touch a detail brush. and if they leak, it could be because you don't have them flush against the structual brush. you could be one unit off. get in real close and look. so think of your portal as a cube. all four sides of one portal need to have the same cell. meaning they need to be portal or portal no draw. if your having trouble. don't get discouraged. they give everyone trouble and they are very hard to understand. try experimenting with them. build yourself a room with on window and one door and portal it. then compile. if you don't get any portal leak errors then you know it's correct. then just keep adding them untill you do get errors and try to figure out why it's leaking.

Portalling does take some time to master but its worth sticking at it. You will find that it all suddenly clicks into place.

Just one thing though, to correct Cybershot, portals ignore all brushes except structural so it doesnt matter if they touch or go through a detail brush.

What the pointfile will do is show the path that can be taken to get round the other side of the brush. Firstly, hide your detail brushes, then follow the line. The gap will be where the vertical line is on you pic there. You'll need to either resize the portal brush or add a structural brush to fill the gap.

are you sure about that schis? everytime i have read anything about portals, it has said that it needs to be up agains a structural brush and that if it is against a detail brush it will leak. Is this not correct?

I just loaded one of the prefab houses in my map and compiled. it had portals already in it. I found that the portals that run horizontal at the top of the steps are portal no draw, but the portal that runs vertical in the window are portal. so i think that vetical portals do not have to be the same cell or side as the horizontal portal. does that make any sense? so if you have a horizontal portal in your map, change it to the opposite of the vertical and see if it still leaks

Sorry Cybershot I didnt make that very clear.

Portals will only connect to structural brushes. So to complete a "portal cell" it must be made up from portal brushes and structural brushes not detail or meshes.

However a portal can go through/touch detail brushes or meshes.

If a portal brush does not touch a structural brush or another portal brush you will get a leak or if it goes into (overlaps) a structural brush or another portal brush then it will leak.

As has been stated the best way to portal your map is to hide everything except your structural brushes and sky brushes - even hiding models makes things easier.

This post may help Here

I hope that is clearer.
