... I bought an ATI video card...  I think I might have a problem... What's next?  An Intel CPU?  Oh god no...

Anyway, my Leadtek 6600GT died on me yesterday...  Stupid heat sink fan went awol without me noticing it.  I needed a replacement fast and the only thing better than the Leadtek (which I hated)  they had in town (needed PCIe) was an Asus EAX1600 Pro 512megs.  I guess it'll suffice for a year...  I think it's a bit better than the 6600GT which has 256 megs btw...

Oh well!  Since I was at the store, I bough another gig or RAM (2 X 512).  Now I have 2gigs...  Can't say I see much difference...  Maybe later since I have some video editing to do...

I actually like ATI better than NVIDIA, but that's just based on my own experiences... and cards that are probably 2yrs old.

I would update my present video card(ATI AIW 8500 128mb) but I am unsure that a PCI slot is meant to take a PCIe video card.

Nothing wrong with ATI stuff... Is it because it's Canadian?

I don't care where the card is make.  In the past and for a long, LONG time, ATI always had problems with drivers support.  Hope it's better now...

Besides, ATI is now the property of AMD which is American...

I definatly prefere ati over nvidia. mostly because I've had more problems with my nvidia card in the last few months than I ever had in the 3+ years with my old ATI.

I like ATI.  Sure the Driver install is lengthy (it installs so much all at once) but I haven't had any problems.  Oddly enough I've got an onboard NVidia 8x agp chip onboard my motherboard and, when combined with my ATI 9550 Pro I have more performance and speed then I do with a faster MB and processor.

Ofcourse I have duel channel ddr memory instead of standard ram.

I love my PC.

I hate ATI just because it was the card that came in my first laptop, the crappy HP where both hinges on the monitor within days after the one-year warranty expired.  It would have cost $250 and two weeks to fix.  OR I could buy a new laptop with about twice the processing power, a slightly smaller hard drive, an infinitely better graphics card (GeForce Go 7600), and next-day service (drive it up to a place about half an hour away, drop it off, get it the next day).  You do the math.

I had so much trouble w/ NVIDIA, and nothing that I can recall w/ ATI...  Of course, there may have been other factors involved.  I've always kind of haphazardly upgraded.

And no, PCI Express will not work w/ normal PCI.
