well, I just bought a new monitor and it is wide screen with a native resolution of 1440x900. I want SoF2 to run with that resolution but can't seem to get it to work. I tried to set r_customwidth 1440 and r_customheight 900, but it won't work. It seems for it to work, I would need to set r_mode -1, but somehow SoF2 can only accept r_mode from 3-10. Am I doing this correctly? Is there anything else I can do to make it to run at a non standard resolution? thanks.

maybe there is something in a config file somewhere in the installation, that you can change it directly, im not sure though.

as far as i know, the customheight/width cvar is coming from quake 3, but not working at all in sof2. (more cvars exist in sof2 that actually don't work).
I guess because of the native resolution of your monitor, the best solution may be playing windowed. However i'm still on old fashioned crt. Hopefully someone else knows better solutions.
