http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3329413,00.htmlhttp://www.jpost.com/servlet....howFullsummary: French troops under the UN flag are trying to enforce the ceasefire between Isreal and lebanon. France is upset that Isreal keeps breaking the cease fire; Isreal says 'get ####ed. we're defending ourselves' so France warns Isreal: any more 'fly-bys' over lebannon will be seen as a violation of UN res.1701; Isreal says 'get ####ed. we're not going to stop' --> so France authorizes their UN troops to fire on IAF jets and thats where we're at right now. *makes popcorn* |

Quote (Captain Seavey @ Nov. 25 2006, 12:10 am) | Why is it, exactly, that if, say, North Korea ignores UN resolutions, they're a "rouge nation", but other countries can ignore them when they're inconvenient? |
Because the other countries that have do, usually have nuclear weapons or something else the US or someone needs. Saudi Arabia is a big violator of human rights, for example, the US needs the oil though so they take a blind eye. (Oil money funds terrorism in a way, so I guess the SUV drivers aren't really "American" after all). North Korea has nothing anyone wants, therefor they can be beat up upon. NK has nukes though so they won't get invaded. |

@Lord Dave it's not as simple as you think. They are not fighting over land it is a religious war. In order to even begin to understand it you have to know the Bible and/or the Koran. The Muslim extremists want everyone that is a Jew/Christian/None Muslim dead. Yes that means they want you and me dead. They believe that the soon they kill us the sooner there God will come. Have you herd some of the things the Iranian leader has said to his people? (It is the exact opposite of what he said to the UN) After all he is the puppet master in all of this AKA the next Hitler. The world as we see it today is the same as it was in 1939 on the brink of world war 3 except this time they will have nukes and they will use them (They found traces of plutonium in Iran so they will get them soon). North Korea is the least of our poblems. The world is about to get a very nasty wakeup call after all Armageddon is knocking on the door. And I am not the only nut job saying it this guy Glenn Beck has a TV show on CNN where he talks about it Monday through Friday. [Warning: He is a conservative just like I am] |

Going back to the main point of the article, thank you, Cobalt, for so clearly skipping over the fact that that same UN force is supposed to be helping the Lebanese army disarm Hezbollah. Since UNIFIL and the Lebanese army have not only done nothing to disarm Hezbollah, but have also done nothing to stop the rearming of Hezbollah (now boasting upwards of 20,000 rockets, even more than before the war this past summer). No, not every resolution passed against Israel is anti-Semitic. But when it's a resolution condemning Israel for something that other nations or organizations are doing ten times worse, while the other nations or organizations are left completely unscathed, that's the issue. |
