I have one sata drive and I keep my computer running all of the time.  I turned on my monitor and it seemed that somehow the computer restarted and the hard drive failed to boot, the bios went to the next device on the boot list, CDROM, and wanted the system cd.  So I check my connections a few times and finally the computer boots windows on the hard drive in SATA 4 port.  I log in and run a CHKDSK.  It give me this back:

I have no idea what this means.  I run a chkdsk, defrag, and various spyware/virus programs at least once or twice a week.  A few weeks ago my other hard drive failed for some reason.  So now I am not sure if it is a hardware or software problem.  I am running CounterSpy, Adware, and my virus program.  I use my windows firewall and my primary virus program's firewall as well.  Any ideas?  I am about to run a fix disk when I restart.

I would loose windows firewall pronto, I only use it as a temporary firewall when I change firewalls. You shouldn't use 2 firewalls, it can cause conflicts.  But that decision is up to you.

There is something wrong.  I ran my fixing chkdsk where I have to restart and when it finished it just froze at the blue screen (not blue screen of death, mind you), but administrator log in screen.  I had to once again restart and find the sata port of the day that will somehow get the computer to fire up the hard drive.  Maybe it isn't getting enough power or something, but in the last five months I've had to buy a new hard drive and power supply... I wonder what is going on... I turned off windows firewall... I am going to try another chkdsk in a minute, after I send this and save some data.  I think I am going to sell this rig on ebay... it is really nice, but I am sick of living the custom-pc lifestyle of live fast, die young.  Any suggestions on what to do?

My Mother Board is an ASUS A8N-SLI Premium Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX, so YES, it is an nvidia chipset.  What do you think could be the problem?

maxtor drives have a known problem with quite a few chipsets. nvidia 3 & 4 being 2 of them.
my own drive will not startup at all from a warm boot. if i either reset the pc or use start.... restart the boot will fail everytime. do a full shutdown and it will startup everytime. there's a firmware update for the drives which is supposed to cure the problem but my drive is also supposed to be unaffected by the problems. bottom line is maxtor can't seem to fix the problem.
IIRC nvidia, sis onboard and most daughterboard controllers have numerous issues when paired with a maxtor.  do a google on the issue and you'll find many people affected  hope this helps
