they both have their advantages and disadvantages, which the consumer chooses is lastly goind to decide what format is going to win.

personally i favour blueray, because it has way more storage capacity than a HD DVD, its like the blue ray developers say, HD DVD is an upgrade to an "old" technology, blueray is new.

The Wii inner component are quite close to GameCube's one.
They are reusing old stuff, which allow them to keep the Wii price quite low.
(And to make cash on top of it)

Because has sunk $__ million into BluRay development, is on the BluRay consortium and plans to sell their moves in BluRay format.

Honestly I'm hoping for that technolgy that puts DVD, HD-DVD and BluRay on one disc, I dont care what formats wins in the end for just copying data just as long as I can buy one copy of a DVD and watch it anywhere.

On a side note, I've read that the HD-DVD player (player, NOT burner) for the Xbox 360 is PC compatible out of the box and is the cheapest on the market.

Yeah, $200 for an HD-DVD player that is one of the best around (according to IGN, anyway) is a pretty good deal.

I just hope Ricoh finishes their lens that allows a player to read both Blu Ray and HD-DVD soon.  That'll end this whole stupid format war.

@Flix: How is Blu Ray new?  It's nearly identical to HD-DVD - both simply use a blue-light laser to read discs.

I *think* though I'm not sure that HD-DVD uses the same laser hardware, but tweaked to be closer to the blue spectrum.  Blu ray uses a completely different laser hardware.

At least that's my guess.

The consumer doesn't chose anything, if they did then there would be a standard chosen on DVD+-R already.
