(and/or the nexus itself completes one full "orbit" around the galaxy and passes over the same spot, on the same planet, where Kirk is buried.  IIRC he's buried on the top of the same mountain that Dr. Sauron stood on when he tried to get into the nexus in the first place.  so along comes the nexus and passes over the body of Kirk --> presto! he's alive again)

Problem with that,
By not destroying the sun in that system the nexus never got close enough to planet to pick him up.
So unless the nexus' orbit changes just slightly it will pass in the exact same spot which was above the planet out of reach of any people, dead or alive.

ah.  ok.   so then maybe Spock figures this all out and moves the body to a planet that's in line with the nexus' current trajectory.

nexus passes over kirk's body --> presto!  :p

I like that tho. As Matt Damon would be terrible.

But I do like the idea of Shatner being in it, im interesting in finding out how they (J.J) pulls it off.

I remember very little of Generations, so forgive me if I make a terrible mistake about what happened, but when would he be rescued without retconning an entire movie out of existence?

By the way, based on what I'm reading at Memory Alpha, I think Soren blowing up the stars permanently changed the path of the Nexus, so it would pass along the surface of the planet each time, not just over it.

Specificly he never destroyed the Veridian star which would have altered the Nexus' course to intersect with Veridian III, though technically he blew it up and then Kirk and Picard undid it.

Either way, you guys are talking about the Nexus, doesnt that only come like once every 40 years?

But this is Star Trek, Spock was brought back, why cant Kirk come back.

The Nexus is just a ribbon of energy, right? So couldn't it simply collide with another form of energy - causing to to "supercharge" and burn out?

Then as the supercharged Nexus is dying, it creates a gravitational pull, pulling Veridian III towards it. An energy leak at the near-end of Nexus' life could then pass into the planet somehow.

It "re-energizes" Kirk's body, unfortunately he ends up with hundreds of personalities. Kirk is crazed and the stress of all these thoughts could kill him - the energy is still dying out inside him - but something must be done to ensure that what is left behind is Kirk's memory, and not something elses.

Step forward Spock, who uses mind-control methods to keep a "hold" onto Kirks memories and thoughts whilst the others in his body are dying.

Meanwhile, the crew that discovered Kirk is off on their huge mission (war?) and we follow them whilst getting updates on Kirk and Spock.

The crew of the ship are successful in their mission at the exact time that Kirk is saved by Spock.

However, this borrows alot from other Trek stories/episodes and is hardly fresh. :(

I agree with Horn.  Kirk's time is over.  We don't need a TOS, we don't need to repeat history, and we sure as heck don't need to redo the continuity.  Can't we just move on?  ####, new frontiers (the book series) would be nice.  Plus it's got a Caitalian in it, which would make an interesting change from the 3 major races that populate federation ships (human, klingon, vulcan)
