some good info here

and here

(Holy Harmonic Distortion, Batman!!)

"Distortion for the iPod is reported to be 0,42% (which is quite some), where the iRiver measures 0,04%"

:s6:

(( for reference my amplifier is .003% and my 12 year old CD player is .001% ;
an ipod has ~420x more total harmonic distortion than a common CD player )) :s6:

btw, a question for iPod owners:
I know these things play from a buffer (they don't play directly off the HDD)

but how much RAM does it have..? (32MB? 64MB?)
and.. is it enough?

ie:do you ever reach a point where the buffer is empty,
and the HDD needs to spin up in order to load the next chunk of the file you're playing?

and when this happens..   can the player read AND write the buffer at the same time..?
((or does the sound 'cut out' for a second while the buffer is filled up from data on the HDD?))

I can't seem to find this answer either.
-thx-

My nano is flashed so I don't have any 'spin up' issues.

I'm confused...

I can feel my Toshiba load each song, but there's never a noticable pause.

yours can probably read and write to the buffer at the same time.  I've learned that an iPod can't :/

I'd agree that most people buy Ipods because they're Ipods...  Which is stupid.  But then again, most people are stupid.  So it really all makes sense.
