Thats right, it stopped reading the games, even dvds it would not read. The only thing that would display on the screen after loading a disc was

So I rang the place were i got it from, and got some long winded talk about bring it down and we shall have a look, then ring M$, then go from there. After a couple of minutes the guy told me I could ring M$ myself to save time, so I did, after about 30 minutes they gave me a refrence number to give to the store so I can get a new one.

That error doesn't even seem to make sense.  It's like the old joke, two cows are standing in a field, one turns to the other and says, "What do you think about this mad cow disease?" and the other says, "I wouldn't know, I'm a chicken!"  Ok, so it's not exactly like it, but it's similar in the sense that the 360 is denying being a 360.

It is pritty much like that, the xbox does not reconise it's self to the game, but yet I can do everything else on it fine, dashboard works perfectly, here is a pic of the error

Out of curiosity, what happens when you put a 360 game in a PC?  Would it come up with a similar error or just not play?

Did you get your Xbox 360 with the recent (massive) update installed already or did you have to run the update yourself? Also was it new out of the box or was it pre-owned and mod'd possibly?

And do you have to use the dollar-sign when talking about Microsoft? That's soo 1996.

And they're still rich enough to warrant it  

I've heard about the recent update crashing systems too.  But at least the system's still under warranty.

Why do you have to use a fancy interpretation of the word "modded" with a hyphen?

Why do consoles nowadays have questionable build quality? I know they have optical drives and are more like PCs rather than a "board with bits", but really - for how expensive they are it just isn't on.

People are going to be really pissed when their $600 PS3s start screwing up, and you can see it a mile off.

Nintendo usually produce good quality hardware, and I am getting a Wii - but I'm worried that the extra tiny size of it may cause them problems this time around.
