Interesting.  What's everyone's view on it?

I want to clean/rebuild my PC, but I'll probably try using this XP Pro student version I got from a friend before I buy a new OS.

Interesting.  What's everyone's view on it?

My cousin asked me this last week (he was also interested in comparing it to Mac OS X, hence the reference toward the end).  Here's what I told him (sorry about the formatting, the lines got truncated for some reason):

"As for Vista - it's an utterly useless upgrade for
99.9% of Windows users.  Originally they were going to
add 1 potentially useful feature, especially for
corporate users - something called "WinFS", which
would have made searching for files more logical and
practical.  But, they couldn't make it work properly
and so they pulled it.

Now, despite the supposed complete re-write, the only
big advancement of Vista over XP is the 3D-accelerated
GUI - which is USELESS to the vast majority of
corporate users, and is mere eye-candy for home users.
(They've also changed the security around a bit,
which according to one of my colleagues who's tried
the beta, makes things incredibly inconvenient, as the
vast majority of Windows apps aren't aware of it and
with some things you get prompted for an administrator
username/password nearly constantly.)

Most of these features are in fact present in OS X -
however, they've been there since it was released, and
thus, apps are designed with that in mind, and it all
works as intended."

It's a 64-bit OS, right?

Yeah.  I'm leaning toward sticking w/ XP.  And hopefully I'll be using XP Pro.
