If the Democrats manage to with the house and senate (I assume by out-cheating the Republicans) then Germany will have a shot at making this stick.  If not, we'll go to war (again) before Bush lets himself get brought up in a foreign court.

I don't know about the Germany thing but if the Dems wins the house (pretty sure) AND the senate you can bet on 2 years of he11 for Bush...  Clinton was impeached for lying about an extra-marital affair so what do you think the Dems will do with all the lies that came out of Bush mouth? Fun I tell you...

Hate to break it to you, but even if Germany charges Bush or anyone else in the Administration, the US isn't likely to hand them over even with a Democrat controlled Congress.

Germany: "Hand over Bush"
US: "No"
Germany: "Okay"

Sure Rumsfeld is doing a terrible job, and Bush saying he is doing a fantastic job is a bigger insult to the military than anything John Kerry can come up with, but he is more likely to be taken care of by the US judicial system than anyone else if something were to happen.

According to Kaleck, the German government regularly receives calls from potential high-level visitors asking, "Are there any complaints against me?"

if charges are pressed on Nov14 then all that will happen is Bush and Rummy will never be able to set foot on german soil again,
for fear of being arrested under a law that was written to deal with Nazi War Criminals in 1947 (hehe).

but no..  the US won't extradite them to Germany.. and the Germans won't do anything to go collect them.

they'll just have to be very careful about ever visiting Germany in the future
(like all the other Nazi War Criminals that are currently evading justice).
(heh)

-=====-

the interesting point is,  these charges were (successfully) laid on Rummy in the past. but they were dropped

and the only reason they were dropped (as recorded by the german high court) was because "..there was no reason to expect he woudn't be charged for these crimes in his home country"
--> so the charges were dropped and Rummy's plane was allowed to land.

but now the official reason given by the courts to drop charges against Rummy has been nullified.. BECAUSE Bush gave him immunity from War Crimes. LOL

so now.. the germans really kinda HAVE TO lay those same charges again. heh.

:p

it actually sounds more like 1936.     I can't believe we're letting it happen all over again.  :O

simple solution : Rummy resigns before November 14.

--> after November14 the Us would be in the uncomfortable situtaion where their defense secretary is wanted for War Crimes under a law designed to deal with Nazis, and his plane wouldn't be allowed to land in Germany without a full fledged Media Shitstorm ™.

solution:   Rummy Resigns (heh).

Bush and Rummy insist it had nothing to do  with the elections,
and this was actually decided last Sunday in Crawford when they met with the New Guy.
(I can believe that)

Yeah I saw the resignation myself.  I say "HA!"  Did bush not say that Rumsfeld would not be going anywhere like 2 weeks ago?  Whose flip-flopping now?

They probably didn't think they were going to lose control, that is what complacency gets you. They misread what the rather large base of people who identify "moderate" really wanted. I doubt when they casted their ballots they were voting for social security privatization and record deficits. The Republicans thought wrong. Sure they gained control of the house and senate and the executive branch, but they weren't wide spread margins. It's like winning a football game by a field goal. Did they really play that much better? Bush won by 3% in O4 in terms of popular vote, that's less than the margin of error in most polls
