I'm upgrading my cell phone now, but I can't decide on which phone to get. I've narrowed the choice down to two phones but I can't choose. Which one do you think is better? They're the same price by the way.

http://www.letstalk.com/product/product.htm?prId=30787 - Samsung SGH-D407

http://www.letstalk.com/product/product.htm?prId=31743&search=C417 - Samsung SGC-C417

Or if you have a suggestion for a phone that I can get from cingular for upgrading my contract, suggest away.

The last thing I want is one of those RAZRs. EVERY SINGLE PERSON I SEE HAS ONE.

I would get a Motorola...  Easy to update via your PC (firmware, mp3, pics, addresses book, hacking).  One of my best friend has a Samsung a920 and there's no USB connection, like most Samsung (if not all).  And good luck trying to use BT with Windows XP...  Furthermore, the Motorolas usually have a better reception in low signals areas.  I usually get 2-3 bars where the a920 gets no signal or 1 bar.

But if you don't plan on connecting your phone to your PC and you really want a Samsung, I'd go with the C417.

Its not that I really wanted a samsung. If I could I'd get a Nokia, but nokia didn't have any nice phones. Samsung has no USB connections at all?

Yes it does, I've found many for it.

What about this phone?:

Its 150 though, as opposed to 100 for the others.

Okay its decided. I'm getting the D407. I found out that the C417 is not able to connect to a computer at all, nor to a car's bluetooth kit.

Sony Ericsson makes alot of stylish little cell phones.  If not a RAZR, I think that would be the way to go.

Actually they've gotten rather poor reviews.

Really?  I'd never heard that.  Well, I really like mine.  I'm biased though.  The only thing I don't like is the address book but when I'm in my car (bluetooth'd through the radio) I don't used that anyway.

There was a funny story on the development of the RAZR.  Basically, the team that is responsible for it basically had to be really secretive about everything they did and they didn't present it to senior management until they'd figured out everything that could go wrong with it so they'd have ready-made responses.  They had to short-circuit corporate culture to put out a good product.

just a bit of trivia, the reason that the Razor is so thin is because unlike traditional cellphones the antenna is in the base rather than the up near the earphone.  I think other phones followed these design scheme later on.

The next gen Razor is coming soon.
