He nearly started a ####ing crusade quoting a byzantine emperor saying that Muhammad is evil and inhuman, and then he messes up the apology by saying "I'm sorry that Muslims had an angry reaction".

All the catholics should start putting on suits of armor right now...

I`m not a Religious man in any sense, I have no belief in any Religion whatsoever, but it seems to me people are bad mouthing the christian and catholic religions all the time without any kind of reaction from the believers in those faiths, but when someone says something like that about the Muslim faith, the believers in that faith start sending out death threats etc like when that picture got printed in that UK newspaper, which, Ironically, kind of backs up what the pope was saying.

Religions should be about spreading love and peace, not making war with people who don`t follow the same belief.

Then again, I`ll not pretend to know the workings of religion, so I could be completely wrong and narrow minded, just calling it the way a non-religious man sees it.

I agree with you there. People have said things about the christian and catholic failth's for many years and no none really gets up in arms about it. As soon as someone looks sideways at the muslim faith, then there is trouble, which is just wrong, they are acting like spoilt little kids.

I read and article in a news paper today, which was about this very same thing, and in it was a quote from a muslim clerik, saying is anything "disgraces" the profic mohumid then that person should be killed by the nearset muslim. I thought that was just wrong.

Yeah, so is burning people at the stake because they translate the Bible into the vernacular.

Both sides have blood on their hands.

Very true, and im not debating that. I would just like to think that as a people we have moved on from such things, but I guess not.

The bible says more or less the same thing. Anyone who preaches false gods is to be stoned to death.

One is no more a "religion of violence" than the other. Notice how it's not the Muslims in western countries who are overly violent? I have no doubt that were Christianity the prominent religion in the Middle east, and the west was largely Muslim, then it would be the Christians in the Middle East being the violent zealots. In the end, it's all circumstantial.

the bit about "stoning to death" was actually a peice of social law not religious law per se.  yeah sure it was specified in a religious document (the bible).. but the people at the time had no real law&order to speak of --> religion (used to) take the place of "law and order" in society.

one of the biggest commandments was "don't steal my sheep" followed by "don't even LOOK at my sheep".  these kinds of laws are not something that our society requires anymore, because we've spent a few hundred years writing laws "as a society" (based on philosophy stolen from the greeks).

there are christians out there in Utah right now who want to return to  "BIBLICAL LAW" , c/w all the penalties specified by the bible, for crimes like "stealing" and "adultery".  those people are ####ing crazy --> muslims who do the same thing are equally crazy.  it shouldn't be tolerated.  by society.

((and thats NOT an anti-religious/anti-semetic/anti-christian position to take, btw.  thats a "pro-society" position (not an "anti-religion" position))

in the end we all have to live in the same world.  there's no room anymore for this.. tribal bullshit (which comes from a time when religion was the ONLY word of law).  nowadays, if my god disagrees with your god, we hash it out in the supreme court <---THAT's the 'modern day' battlefied where Alah can declare Jihad on jehovah, and we'll all make popcorn and talk about it later.

catholics have "gone along" with the rest of society..  and they want the muslims to move on, too.

What I heard the pope trying to say,  was..  'the muslims need to give up their attchment to (ancient) tribal law and join the rest of us in a world where we NO LONGER use violence to settle religious disputes.'
(yeah sure: the catholics did it too.   but that was hundreds of years ago)*

*((note: we picture the catholics going around the world trying to convert "jungle tribes" to christianity..
..but the real purpose of the Crusades was "War On Islam" whether we want to believe it or not.
why the #### do you think we're still dealing with the fallout,  now,  hundreds of years after the fact?
(because the catholics won the crusades)
Britain occupied "Palestine" for over a hundred years before WWII, when they finaly "gave it" to the jews))
((there;s been a "War on Islam" raging for the better part of the last milennium, and it was started by the cathloics))

--> the pope was basicaly saying : lets stop this already.
the crusades were a long time ago.  lets stop this fighting.   it cramps my style.

then he went onto blame the muslims for propagating the entire conflict, and basically called them a "warlike people" ---> when HIS SIDE STARTED IT! LOL!!

I laughed by bag off.

the biggest problem with organised religion...   is organized religion. :p

Ah, Muslims.  Welcome to the Catholic Church.  They will not apologize.  They will not back down.  You can't scare them.  And they'll just keep coming...because they think they're right.

They're really not into that whole 'appeasement' school of thought that Islam has been accustomed to nowadays.
