What are these light flares? and where can i see the most noticeable difference when they are on or off

Board software doesn't like .png lmages

Ok now where is this place in the screenshot? i tried on few other lights but i did'nt saw any flares with the option turned on .. where exactly is this place where you tested

light flares appear on the walls when you shoot your phaser.  its like "reflected" light (reflected on the walls around you).

try shooting a photon burst down a hallway and watch the light-flares on the walls, they move with the projectile.

but with light flares "off",  there is no light shone onto the walls of the hallway from your photon burst.

Not really, EF doesn't support dynamic lights liken you find in newer games. if you want to seee real dynamic lighting in action check out Doom3. the light flares work differently. IIRC what you are seeing is a texture being moved dowon the wall. the only demo of "dynamic lighting" I ever saw in EF was done by uss speed using shaders to create the effect.

I thought flares were when you look directly at a bright light, you get those "spots"

Light flares are the "halo" effect around light sources.  Not nessisaryily a glow on reflective surfaces, but sometimes it is.  It's also those circle things worf just did.  That's caused by a strong lightsource passing through a lense.  The light refracts and produces some neat colors.  It only shows up when you really look at a strong lightsource like the sun.
