EA Signs Agreement to Bring In-Game Dynamic Advertising to Select Titles

http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/060831/20060831005198.html

Quote

The initial EA title to incorporate dynamic in-game advertising via IGA is Battlefield 2142™, developed by DICE in Stockholm, Sweden. Fans of the franchise will see new, realistic brand presence integrated into contextually relevant game environments across the platforms and across the geographies where they play.

I wonder if it will make games cheaper?

Planetside as little adds in the spawn rooms.  Honestly I really don't notice them.  Too much action going on to pay attention.

up until now, the game companies have been paying to use ads-as-trademarked-images in their games.
so like, when you see a "coca-cola" ad on the boards in an Ea-sports NHL game (for example), its EA who pays Coke for the right to use the image.
not the other way around, like you might expect.

if this means that the shoe will be on the other foot, and the game devs can (finally) charge advertising royalties like a "product-plant" in a speilberg movie.. then that can only be a good thing.

(the ads are already there anyways.  right now its actually "costing" the devs money to "add realism" to sports games by inserting ads)

So it'll be like the movies. I remember going to see an adam sandler movie, he was making fun of a cop with big ears, and says "Hey do you get XM on those?"

I just wondered to myself how much XM paid to get that thrown in the movie. Those little advertisements really pee-pee me off.
