I dunno if this makes me an even bigger dork or what, but I just soldered my glasses back together.  The metal gave out and snapped between the bridge and the lens frame.  I've got new ones on order, but I probably won't get them for a week or so.

So it's not quite as bad as tape, but there's a nice little wad of solder on 'em...

It wasn't easy, especially since this is only the 2nd thing I've ever soldered in my life, (and I taught myself how to do it) but it seems to be holding.

Heheh.  They're thin wireframe glasses.  They snapped at the point where the bridge wire connects to the frame holding the lens.

Sad part is, he forgot to take the glasses off before he tried soldering them.

Nice job, in any case.  This actually happened to me a few weeks back.  I was messing around with my dog and he head-butted me and broke my glasses.  Of course, I was leaving on a trip 2 days later.  Luckily enough, we stopped by a For Eyes and they had my same frames so I had the lenses put into those.

Soldering was going to be my next step if I couldn't find the new frames right away.

lol  Good one.

Every single time I go to get new glasses, they've discontinued the frame.  It's so annoying.  Even when I get a new prescription... I don't want to choose a different frame.  Just give me the same thing.  Anyway, I got the closest match I could find.

As for my soldering job, it's holding them together, but the joint is flexing...  So a re-solder may be in my future. It's a really small contact point anyway, so you can't expect too much from a solder job.  Especially from a total amateur.

Soldering is a good skill to learn, and they try to get me to buy a new frame by telling me it is too dry and brittle you must have a new/wet other wise it will snap. That was 18 years ago. All the new prescriptions are put into the same frame, hasn't snaped yet.

Why didn't you get one day contacts or something? I would have thought that was easier than soldering and disposable packs aren't that expensive.
