I hadn't seen this particular compilation, but I have seen most of the source clips.

The sport is called "free running". I have a friend who's into it, and i'm thinking about getting into it,
since I already do some pretty stupid amateur jumping and acrobatic stuff

I gotta say though, that part at the beginning doing the flips had nothing on the awesomeness that is Team Ryouko (click for cool video). Also, while your at it, check out this clip for more of the same, but with more martial arts / weapon stuff (including a couple cool lightsaber clips).

i dont think they use safty nets, just like inlineskaters dont necercerily use a helmet et al

I always heard this referred to as "parkour".  Here's one of my favorite vids.  And here's one that must be from a movie or something.

Some of that video was parkour, some was free running.

There very similar sports, but differ in showmanship and philosphy.

Parkour is about finding and executing the most efficient route possible to manuever around/over/under whatever object your faced with.

Free running doesn't necesarily want you to find the most efficient / fastest route. It's about style, showmanship and flow. It allows for more flexibility and tricks and the like.

lol so parkour is like defrag running and free running is like free style tricking 0_o
