You may want to after watching this video.  About 15 minutes, and the audio goes wonky in the last five or so (at least for me), but quite impressive!

Own a Toyota? Nope, I only buy from GM or it's subsidiaries.

That's like being proud to only use plastic sporks and not silverware...

Personally, I always thought the best strategy was to simply pick the car that best fits one’s needs and budget, regardless of who made it. Guess some have preferences otherwise, never really understood it, though.

Buying American is very noble... but with everything unionized these days it costs too much to make a superior product in the States.

I have had two Carina's before, now have my third. My dad had one as well (still does) always runs without any problem - that's why I wanted one too. I just want my car to run without any problems, and that's exactly what it does :)
PS sold my second to buy a newer one, the second had run 200.000 km without any probs (only the regular checkups).
I think this goes for a number of other Japanese cars as well, and generally cars are a lot more reliable then they used to be.

Interestingly enough, most Japanese car makers actually have American factories nowadays. Just makes sense: its not exactly cheep to ship a car halfway 'round the world.

I use to have a Toyota Tercel way back.  That thing had 500,000 Km in it, they were HUGE holes in the floor, the rear heater didn't work but it still started without a problem at -30c.  Never had a problem with it...  That thing just wouldn't die...

I've got a Tercel right now, and I know of one sure-fire way to kill 'em.  Don't put oil in the engine.  :;):
