I remember what someone wrote in a review:

"After 2 days training on Degobah, Luke could sense Han's suffering from across the galaxy.  I feel very strongly that after 800 years of jedi training, Yoda could sense Palpatine's evil from across Palpatine's desk."

I believe it was a testament to Sidious' power that he could decieve the Jedi in such a way, it is said he is as powerful as yoda in the force.

Besides, the Jedi knew something was wrong with the whole scenario (as Obi-Wan states to Anakin after the Council meeting) but had grown arrogant in their power and complacent in the believe the Sith had become extinct (not truly believing that Maul had a master after all, or didn`t really consider them a threat).

Han was not trying to hide his pain, or trained in the force so as to be able to do it.

Interesting that it requires a high speed internet connection.  Wouldn't it say "for multiplayer" if that were just for online play?
