I have one drive divided up into a C and a D partition.  I want to make C bigger, but I don't want to have to reformat the whole drive.  Aside from paying $70 for Partition Magic, is there a safe free (or cheaper) program out there that can edit partitions without reformatting?

I believe I read that a linux program called "Gparted" could do it. So if you had a live CD with it it may help.

It'll handle NTFS Windows partitions okay?  I obviously want something reliable...

While you ALWAYS want to backup when doing somthing of this nature yes it does support it. But the quick read I just did said that you can shrink a partition fine but you can only enlarge them forward. So if you want to increase a second partion on a disk into newly freed space before the partion, it needs to be copied over to another disk delete the original and then copy the copy back!

I suppose there are some Linux Live CDs that would work alright, but I think PartitionMagic would be your best bet... you can get it cheap on ebay.

At the time of this post, here's a copy for about $5.00 - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320007563381

Am I going to be able to use those copies past 30 days? :s8:

I'm wary of buying any kind of software on Ebay.
