^^ most of that is corporate tax coming from the oil sector where the price of oil is has been inflated by the war in iraq  :;):
(go team!)

your increased tax revenues from the corporate sector are only happening because the price of oil is being driven (by war) to beyond $70 a barrel.

---------

(thats actually the same reason why "Alberta" is seeing such huge budget surpluses in canada.
ours come from a 1% 'royalty fee' charged on american (and chinese) companies who harvest our tarsands for us.)

(in the 80's, for perspective, oil fell below $13 a barrel and the government of alberta made a collective decision to shut down production completely. tarsands costs more than that to pull out of the ground, afterall. recovery of oil from tarsand is expensive. our oil companies couldn't afford to operate)

I'm saying that the trends show that the defecit is SHRINKING.

The Bush tax cuts, if 'un-fooled-around-with' should have the defecit gone by '09.

I've missed something here - how do tax cuts reduce the defecit?

To reduce the defecit you need to either cut spending or increase revenues.  Cutting taxes does neither.   The only possible connection would be if tax cuts were leading to a healthier economy and therefore increased tax revenues.

What is the evidence for this assertion?  Let's see the connection made... between lowered taxes and a healthier economy.

Pork

PS.  The defecit might be shrinking, but the debt isn't.   Defecit spending is not neccessarily bad but a huge debt and the interest payments that go with it can be be.

It's a convienient little fact that when taxes are lower, people cheat less, and therefore actually generate more revenue for the government. Yes, it seems counter intuitive, but all facts back that up.

Sorry.. I'm not buying those facts until I actually see them... and even then, I seriously doubt that it's a "provable" statement.

Even if you could prove that people cheat less... what dollar amount does that add up to and how do you calculate that number?

I'm with pork and cobolt.  If you honestly think people aren't going to cheat just because taxes are lower your dreaming.  The fact that they're cheating means they want as much money as possible.  And that revenue is most likely due to oil price increase.
And as I said, I'm waiting for the end of 2006 before I make any conclusions.  The year is only half over and alot can happen in 6 months.
