Just after lunch, when I was chatting with colleagues in my office, I felt my chair shaking as though someone was pushing it, and at the same split-second odd noises came from bookshelves behind me. I said "earthquake" right in the middle of a sentense and ran to a supporting collumn, while some colleagues were still puzzled.

I stayed by the collum shouting "earthquake", and heard people running out of offices and the political leader telling to them not to panick. Within seconds the shakes seemed to have stopped but the power was off suddenly (colleagues in my office were unpluggging computers at that moment). We heard the pl saying it was she who turned off the control panel in case more serious quakes would come. (her office is near that panel).

Fortunately nothing bad happend again. We stayed in offices alerted for a few minutes. during which everyone phoned family members and friends to make sure they were safe and calm.

Half an hour later, the pl turned up the power again and we were back to work. Around 3:00 PM the state earthquake bureau issued an earthquake report to our mobile phones. It was a 5.1 earthquake.

There are some damage reports but no casualty report until now.

Sounds like fun!  Well, as long as you're far enough from the epicenter and no one gets hurt.  Glad you're ok.

A guy I work with is a EarthQuake nut, when ever there is a earthquake anywhere in the world he tells me about it. If there is a patern to it. I am glad your alright.

A 5.1 is certainly enough to cause a bit of damage... glad to hear everyone's doing fine :)

What is a politic leader? ???

A company run by communists has a president and a political leader.

The president is in charge of the major business of the company and the pl in charge of education for the employees. The reason to call it a "political leader" is, the "education" was originally more a kind of control of thoughts, like in George Orwell's 1984, which we didn't think to be wrong at that time.

After the Reform, the pl has turned to be in charge of everything besides the major business of the company. For instance, in my company, the president is in charge of publishing, and the pl is in charge of public relations, office building management, secuity, activity arrangement, readiing communist documents to us...etc. In an emergence case like an earthquake, it's the pl's job to organize people up to survive the "attack".

Probably the right English word for a pl is "commissar" which I learned from Call of Duty 2.

Nothing damaged in my office. Colleagues in the adjacent office were making a kind of coffee-milk at that moment, and it spilled everywhere.

The epicenter is in a county south to Beijing, where many houses got crackles on walls. No one is injured.
