Whenever I try to browse for Quake 4 servers to play multiplayer, my Linksys Etherfast 8 port Cable/DSL router stops working. I can't login to the router, and can't get onto the internet again until I power cycle the router. I even bought a new router thinking it was the router, but the new router does the same thing (same brand/model). If I try to join a server after browsing for servers (and losing my internet due to the router locking up), Quake 4 states that my CD key is in use and I have to wait a few minutes and reenter my CD key! I can play other games online OK, and browse the internet just fine, nothing else has ever caused the router to behave this way. I installed Quake 4 on my other computer and the same thing happens. It only happens with the 1.1 patch, not with the 1.0.5 patch (I'm careful not to use widescreen!) The 1.1 patch was working fine for a couple weeks, then one day this problem started happening, so I don't think it's the patch itself, but the issue does not happen with 1.0.5.2. I love playing Quake 4, I even bought a Copperhead high dpi mouse to play with, but now I can't join my favorite servers! Can anyone help?

hmmm, my browser canot detect any games but im not on a router,im directly connected to the dsl modem

I can browse servers normally again now that I've installed the 1.2 patch, without making any other changes to the router. Apparently there was something about the 1.1 patch that was causing the issue for me. Thanks for the help!

im glad you got your stuff to work...yeah...i wasnt about to mess with my computers configuration files just to get THIS game to work when everything else works just fine.

Yes 1.1 had some kind of problem, i can see games now in the browser.

But i have a new problem now, maybe you can help me.

any game i try to join it tells me that im missing files and the server dosnt offer downloads.  so i STill cant play this game on line  

I've seen that, too, but only with some servers. I used to see that if the server was running maps from the quakemas map pack (at the time I didn't have the quakemas map pack installed), but I think those maps are included in the 1.2 patch. You may just be running into servers that are running custom maps, I run into those servers sometimes. Keep trying several servers, there are lots of good servers I have found just by trying lots of servers. If it happens with every server, then someone else may need to help you out.

My problem is back, too, even with the 1.2 patch! I couldn't browse Q4 servers again for a few days, then I was OK for a few days, now I can't browse again! I finally bought a new brand of router, so far, so good. I guess the problem is with some change that was made in the 1.1 patch that doesn't work properly with Linksys routers.
