The topic says it, my performance severely drops down whenever I load a savestate (autosaves, quicksaves...) in the SP campaign. The game runs flawlessly when I start a new game, I can play for minutes into the first map with a rock solid 60fps, but the slightest attempt to load any saved game totally screws it, even when loading from the titlescreen. The performance then stays down, the only way to solve this is by quitting the current game and starting a completely new one.

For example, in the first room with the first few stroggs I get 60fps, now when quicksaving and immidiately quickloading again, fps drop down to ~30-40. Tested in various locations, it´s always the same.

This happens for me with ver. 1.0, 1.0.5, and 1.1beta. Is this a known issue or am I the only one with this prob?

P4 3,0HT FSB800, 1gig RAM, i975p canterwood, audigy 2, x800XT with cats 6.2, XP Pro SP2.

I personally haven't heard about any one else having this issue...but I'm not keeping close tabs on bug reports ether...best bet would be to look in the bugs thread at the top and see if its listed there...if not by all means submit a bug report with as much information as you can...seems odd none the less...well best of luck and sorry to hear the game isn't playing well for you.

Thanks for your reply, I checked all the threads but couldn´t find anything...
Now it´s getting even stranger, I tested it on my friend´s rig (Athlon 64 3700+, x800gto, 1 gig RAM, same drivers) and it shows the exact same problem! I´m now starting to think that this is the game´s normal behavior and most people just don´t recognize (I also recognized it rather accidentally while entering some cvars...). Could this somehow be linked to the fact that the overall performance of Quake 4 is worse compared to Doom 3?

Could someone please check the following: Start a new game and enable the fps-counter (com_showfps 1), enter the first room, kill the stroggs, walk around a little while checking fps, quicksave and quickload and check the fps again.

It would be really interesting to see if more people are expiriencing the same probs.

I did what you said and that doesn't happen to me. Stays pegged at 60. maybe its an ATI issue?
