Wondering whats going on at Raven Software. Anything planned? You know the game (quake4) is slowly dying don't you?
What can we expect in terms of maintainence? Netcode upgrade? Downloading files from server? Or a better browser, new desktop icons and the likes?
Even tho its only 1% of the total gamers that really care about this, IT REALLY should be considered.
Gimme something concrete here: Patch date? Implementations? or just anything. Throw me a bone! I've bought an product that wasn't really done and now I wanna complete it!

P.S. Is there a way to turn the annoying Thunder/Croak sound off? Guess its to annoy the forum posters even more? D.S.

Don't just stop at Quake...  or PC games for that matter.

The last good game I played was Guitar Hero on the PS2.

If you crank up xbox 360 on HDTV, it turns gummy and in the case of quake it is a slide show... I saw this myself the other day.

I can't believe how under-powered the xbox 360 is when fully utilized on HD.

As consumers, we are being taken for a ride in general.

As to whats going on with support for Quake 4... The last word we got is that they are working on a larger patch that fixes alot of issues with multiplayer.

Finally, although we've released only small (but critical) updates to QUAKE 4 so far, we are working on a much broader update for release early next year, and we also have a couple of multiplayer map packs currently being tested for release in the near future. Stay tuned.

Yeah, and at that time they had the beta patch for 1.05.  What happened to that?  It's been 2 months later and there is still no official 1.05 patch.

New mappack and patch is the smallest problems for Quake4 at the moment...

What I don't get is that Raven is developing the next Wolfenstein game for the 360 as its primary platform...

Do they really expect people to have faith in them as a 360 developer when they have virtually abandoned Quake 4 on the 360 even though it has MAJOR problems?  I don't want to minimize the PC version's problems, but in addition to all the problems it has on PC the 360 version also has a horrible framerate (think playing the PC version on a P4 2.4ghz with a GeForce 6200)  in high definition resolutions and buggy multiplayer code that requires you to reset the console after playing for a while.  It even freezes at times and has terribly long load times even when loading a saved game after dieing...  id Software's Doom3 engine looks like a complete bust on 360 because of Quake4's terrible performance; doesn't id Software care about licensing their engine?  You'd think they'd help Raven fix the framerate/performance issues so at least the Doom3 engine looks decent on 360.

Yet, despite all of this Raven/id have yet to even comment on developing a patch for the 360.  Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 2 had far fewer problems than Quake 4 yet they announced a patch long ago (and the first of two updates has already been delivered with the second coming soon.)  At least PC users know they are constructively working on a patch.

How does Raven/id expect to build a fanbase on 360 after releasing such an unoptimized buggy game (for $60 no less) which they apparently are not going to bother fixing?  I can play Quake 4 better on my 2-year old PC!

Well generally speaking what gets fixed on the PC will make its way on to the XBox since its really just a small form factor PC. :)

The 360 has a dual core Xeon cpu right...maybe thats why Intel worked hand and hand with Id and Raven for the beta 1.04 & 1.05 patch's that could boost frame rates up to 85%...which will probably be far more visable on the 360 than the PC.

I can't really comment on why those patch's haven't been pushed down to the XBox crowd...could be a botched job on MS's part...could be that MS, Intel, id, Raven feel more testing is required...who knows.

As for CoD2 well that is more or less Q3A which we all know has been patched repeatively over the years...and is still being patched now that its open sourced...so the fact that CoD2 is less buggy is no surprise...not to mention SMP support went into Q3A a long time ago, and likely enabled on the 360 by default. This isn't to take away from the quality work Infinity Ward has done...just a statement that its engine has been worked over a lot to get it in the state it is today...with contrabutions by Raven, Ritual, Grey Matter, Splash Damage, and likely a few others.

Doom has been worked over thus far by id, Raven, Intel....and maybe some stuff has been merged by 3D Relms...thats fewer hands and much less time involved.

Any ways time will tell, but there have been some big improvements to the engine\game since it was first released, so for now I'd say PC & Console gamers have some thing to look forward to...it would have been nice if things where rosey from the get go...but some times things just don't work out that way.
