I'm trying to make myself an online portfolio.
I've got the basic design down.
See here
I plan to have some sort of colage in the center of that lower portion. so while it's blank now it won't be later.
Also, the background image is kinda pixilated, not sure if it's too pixilated though.

anyway, the big thing I need to know is not about that page.
the "2d" and "3d" are clickable to bring up this.
But I forgot to add a "Home" button on these other pages.
and since I like the way everything looks right now, I"m not sure where it should go.
Here's one option.
I made it smaller because I want it to be less prominent.
although, being smaller there it's almost more prominent.
so I need advice.
where would be a good place to put something like that.

another thought I had was having it higher, to the left of my name going down the side. like...
H
O
M
E

does that make sense?

what do yall think?

[edit]another idea I'll throw at you, what about an arrow, similar to the one under the "2d", over on the left pointing left or up? perhaps a bit bigger. maby, if it points left, have the word home verticle right next to the arrow, or if it points up, have it just right underneath. and in a simple font like arial or some other sans-sarif font.
?

Well, as a self-proclaimed graphic designer (though I do have an AAS in multimedia if that means anything. :p ), I have a few comments.
1.  Yes, that background image is WAY too compressed/pixelated.  In all honesty, it looks terrible.
2.  What theme/style are you going for?  The background and the title (your name) font make it look like you're going for an old-timey classical theme. (like the constitution? Heh.), but that other font is too modern for that... So I don't really know what you're going for.
Working out the flow of your site is important, but you also want a consistant theme.  Not sure which you should work on first, though.  *shrug*

I'll design/build your site for a reasonable price. :p

I'd like to think it was.  Sorry if it sounded harsh.  Wasn't my intent.

Yeah, I didn't mean that the background image was a bad idea, but that the quality of the .jpg was terrible.

Corridale, I'm from Tennessee, midsouth USA. I've found that my last name is acctualy really common around here. along with very common misspellings of my name like Wilkerson and Wilkenson.

Para, that probably is exactaly what happened with that image.
I found it on the net, then resized & altered it to fit my needs and saved it again.
simple text in the bottom right corner might be the best idea.

As for the style, I wasn't exactaly going for the old paper look but simply brown and textured.
I've found getting that textured look is very difficult and that image was the closest I could find in the short time I spent searching.
And I chose the font for my name because it's very similar to my handwriting, just a readable version.
And because a large part of my work revolves around scifi stuff I thought a more modern font would be appropriate for the rest.

If there are any specific fonts you think would look better please tell me, but I'm happy with these so I'm not going to go searching again.

So, yeah, you've all be very helpful so far.

It's just that the brown background and the font makes it look like you're going for an old style...  If you want to go 'sci-fi,' you need to go all the way.  Mixing the fancy script fonts and the rounded futuristic fonts doesn't really work.

It looks like a old piece of parchment or a old piece of paper. The skin I have for Mozilla Thunderbird is maple and that is textured.

ok, so I've been working on a new background but because the font for my name was so thin, it was hard to read on this background so I got a new font too.
SEE HERE
I also put the home down in the corner and I think I like that.
but I'm not quite sure what I think of the bricks in the BG.
what do yall think?
