I think the backround looks good, it looks like a cement wall. I like the idea of script for your name, and having it down one line from the top makes it stand out. I also have bad handwriting, well on second thought it is not that bad. One of my freshmen teachers in high school had worse handwriting, ironically it was the English teacher...he later became a gym/sports coach .

I gave you plenty of suggestions.  But I'm not gonna say 'try blah-font in a light blue' or something.  You do your trial and error, you post your results, and we'll tell you what we think.  That's what I've been doing.

It's his portfolio, he has to be happy with it.

I suggest you keep it nice and sober. In all honesty most game developers are not interested in seeing how good you are at building sites.

The most important things are the following.

1) make it easy for them to find and see your artwork. Use thumbnails that link to the big images
2) only show your best work, they are more interested in seeing 5 good items than 10 average items.
3) only show finished work
4) make sure there are no viruses or advertisements on your site

ok, I've got a html question for ya,
useing tables, is it possible to make a table with a set width & height that won't resize if the content gets bigger than that size just add a scroll bar?
does that make sense?
I know I could do that with frames but I keep hearing that people don't like frames.

what I'm wanting this for is the lower half of the page where all my work will be displayed.

No, you can't use scrollbars w/ tables.  What you're looking for is an iframe.  Google it.
People have issues w/ frames, yeah.  But there's really no other way to do what you want, short of making a flash app that scrolls.  And in all honesty, the biggest issue people seem to have w/ frames is that they 'break' the back/forward buttons.  Which if you're only using one iframe, I don't see happening.  I use iframes all the time in my designs.  Check out the one at http://www.christine16.net

Is this meant for game developers, MMFS?  You mentioned your 2d work.  I'm assuming that's like those caricatures you do.  If you're trying to get clients/jobs for that kind of stuff, I'd say having a nice looking website is important.

Interesting.  Thanks for the link.
I'm building my own site right now... I'm currently using an iframe... But because of the flash menu that I'm using, and because I'm not really concerned w/ the search engine ranking or 'screen readers' and mobile browsers, I think I'm gonna stick w/ the iframe.  Even the bookmarking thing isn't a big deal since it's a small, simple site.
