Hi..i bought Quake 4 today (wich is a great game by the way) and for sOME reason, every time i save..when i try to load it..it goes about halfway to load and takes me back to the main menu wit no sound. The Only way i an really play Quake is to restart the whole darn level.

It also wont even let me start a new game sometimes. Like il go to the new game, clikc on the SECOND hardest diff., it loads and about halfway, it takes me back to the main menu, then i choose the first diff...and itl let me play (sometimes itl be the other way).

And sometimes it freezes and a thing pops up saying Q4 had to restart becuz oit encountered a prob...Here are my sys. specs......

AMD Athlon 1.75 GHZ
Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 128 MB
512 RAM
DirectX Version 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Sound Blaster Live 24-Bit

I know its a handful and i kow my sys. specs are sucky but pleez try to help me guys...

Well.. I'd say perhaps your sound drivers may need to be upgraded.

I've read some problems with creatives drivers, and upgrading them seem to fix it.

I don't have sound blaster live, so I'm not really an expert on what drivers to get.

No it didnt work..i installed the CRITICAL UPDATES and any other update it selected for me and it still wont load any saved game. And the level im on is the Aqueducts (bit of a hard level)..but it loads them faster. Now What    

I also installed the 1.05 or 1.5 update so no prob there....(sigh)

Solution:

Generic sound cards cost $10.

Problem solved. (I have a few if you'd like to buy them)

I dont know what u mean..Are youy even with Ravensoft.

I also encountered a new thing. Simetimes when i complete a level the loading goes about halfway and takes me back to the screen with no sound..once again.it Wont take me to the next level. Even if i select another level..it wont let me go to it..takes me back to screen etc...only wya is to quit Q4. My Computer Is F****** up. Please at least TRY to help me guys. Sorry if i sound to irriritating to put up with.

I really didnt do any updating in my CD-ROM..u think thats the prob.

I also had kind of a bit the same problem with DooM3..i wouldnt let me load, or start a new game or EVEN PLAY ANYTHING..Not even Multiplayer becuz i had a 1.05 Ghz processor..not 1.5..a 1.05. Q4 needs a MINIMUM of a 2.0 Ghz processor..i have a 1.75. U think my Processor is the problem..maybe i might have to get another one..

I think you need more RAM. just get another stick of 512 they are under $50 these days. The minimum requirements never work right. don't think it's your cpu. If your motherboard has onboard sound you may want to use that instead of SB.

Just to let you know, I'm just a reg user, I'm not part of RavenSoft.  I'm just willing to give you some advice.

I agree with Gizmo, that 512mb might not be enough, perhaps to run the game smoothly, and if you increase the video settings, it will use more the 512mb in SP mode.  Another 512mb stick should be cheap to get.

Off of Activisions site, if you experience crash/freeze when loading a level, this is what they recommend to check:

Although you state a 1.75 ghz CPU, I think it should still work.

I tried Updating my Video Drivers and it didnt work..il do what you say and post back here k?..I dont see a Raven folder in C\Program Files\Raven..it like doesnt exist..is that the prob...and u said it is the "default" location..what is the other location?

ya Q4 does kinda work..it just gets a lil..choppy or laggy if u know what i mean..PLEASE try to help me. And maybe il get a new proc. of 2.0 Ghz..On my dad's comp..Q4 RUNS very smooth. U think the minimum of 2.0 on my comp. will run exactly smooth?
