First let me say I think Raven Software made an excellent game in Q4. It captures the essence of Quake and will be a fun game to play for some time to come.
But WTF happened with the XBOX 360 version's framerate? I bought this title and I am running it at 1080i on my 57" HDTV and the framerate is just horrible - 30fps & hitching most of the time, often dropping to 15fps... even on the first level! Something is seriously unoptimized with the XBOX 360 version; I mean, Inifinity Ward was able to get COD2 virtually locked at 60fps and that is in the same league as Q4 visually - yet Q4 on X360 sputters along and can't even remain locked at 30fps. Depressing to say the least.
So, I am holding out hope for a patch over XBOX Live to address performance problems... For XBOX1, Unreal Championship had such a patch deployed to fix slowdown.
For the sake of the Doom3 engine on XBOX 360, and the $60 I spent on this game, work on a patch to be downloaded over Live! Even if it means reducing some graphic details... The current X360 version just does no justice to Quake4. If it was a $40 XBOX1 title I wouldnt be posting this, but the fact is that its a $60 XBOX 360 title. I know things were rushed to get to launch, but now that its out, please fix it!
Thanks, from a serious Q4 player! |

To be honest I doubt its Raven's fault here. If you read or even heard that the Xbox 360s they were released weren't completed versions.... yes... as unbelieveable as that sounds. 87% of the Xbox 360's that sold on Tuesday had some problem, 1 person had a blue screen... yes a blue screen... other people have 'many' differnt problems. To be honest I am starting to understand why stores nationwide only had 40-50 Xbox 360's to sell. At first I couldn't believe mircosoft would dare do something like that.... 38 Xbox 360's were on shelves in the walmart in my area. JUST 38. Thats ALOT of unhappy peopled. Not to mention the people working at stores such as Walmart, EB, and CC got fired for changing their preordered order to get it even though they were suppose to be delayed. For example I preordered the 400$ Xbox 360 and it was delayed dew to shortage. Most of the employees were also on that list and they switched there spot with someone who was in front. The Xbox 360 is causing more havoc than it should have on the launch. My best answer is you should have waited to get an Xbox 360 for christmas cause people are having blue screens, low fps when others are fine, CD scratchs, unable to read erros alot of problems actually. To be honest you should brush up on the G4 or the E3 forums or channel and listen up on the reviews of the 360 so far, cause I haven't heard much people being pleased with the launch and even heard that there might acutally be some law suits. =(
Also if you don't believe this you should go check out the Quake 4 Xbox 360 trailers. They ran JUST fine. I don't fully doubt its not the game, but alot of Xbox 360s that were sold on Tuesday have problems. As for detoning the graphics on the Xbox 360 Quake 4 in a patch... as far as I am concerned I don't believe that is possbile in a patch.... I think you would have to wait for them to remake Quake 4 and resale but I don't think they would do that considering it would have to be on a differnt enigne or configed like a PC to customize like that.
Over all... my opinion to you is to drop the Xbox 360 to get your money back and upgrade your computer, cause Call of Duty and Quake 4 both are for the computer AND for buying either one of those games you pretty much get hundreads more free in a sense since people love to MOD games. |

My X360 is just fine, it plays every game I've played on it for an hour+ (PDZ,COD2,Condemned,PGR3,Kameo,Quake4) just fine without a major problem or glitch including Quake4. Quake4 simply has a crappy framerate, and the Gamespot/IGN reviews confirm this. It wouldn't be too much of a crappy framerate if I was comparing it to say, Doom3 on XBOX1, but I'm not. I'm comparing it to the PC version of Quake 4 on a relatively cheap PC (P4 3.2Ghz + 6800GT + 1GB ram), or even the XBOX 360 version of COD2 which is locked at 60fps. I'll even go as far to say that Halo 1 on XBOX1 had a better framerate than this game on X360. I think the main difference is not everyone is playing it on a big HDTV like me (57" @ 1080i), so the framerate issues arent as noticable.
The X360 version runs about 15-30fps outdoors (~20ish average), 15-60fps indoors (~30ish average). I can't say I've played through 30 seconds of Quake4 on XBOX360 without seeing noticable slowdown. The PC version on my above rig runs 60fps smooth most of the time. COD2 with similar graphic detail runs 60fps smooth on X360. Bottom line, Raven didn't optimize this game well for XBOX 360. I hope a patch can fix this by taking better advantage of the hardware. |
