they didn't light the MP maps properly. the outdoor areas look like the canyons of Jedi Outcast. the indoor areas look fully-lit like the corridors of the ST:voyager. so, while MP game kinda plays like Q3A, it manages to "look" worse that UT2k3. it has a really "unfinished" feel to it. meanwhile the SP looks like a totally different game than MP; in fact it looks exactly like Doom3. the way they use lighting is pretty much the same as Doom3. except the flashlight looks better in Doom3. ( and the weapons are better in Doom3). but even the marines look the same. its almost the same game. (in fact as I was playing Q4 I was thinking to myself : "..oh yeah. I haven't finished 'ressurection of evil' yet. maybe I should play that first. at least that one had a gravity gun") ----- also, I've heard that the SP is only about 10 hours long. with no replay value. and there are only 9 (sort of 'unfinished-looking') MP maps. I see this game as (future?) MP platform.. devoid of content. its waiting for the mod community to step up and start giving us weapons and maps and game-modes (and a reason to play). depending on the Quake3-mod-community, (ie: how large it is and how many will take the leap to Q4), this might be a good game to play online in about 2-3years. right now its just a(n extremely short) SP episode for Doom3. it coulda been a mod for Doom3. (and the MP gives us exactly what we has, with Doom3's MP package: its a good platform but its devoid of content) (this MP coulda been a mod, too) |

The shotgun in Quake 4 takes the pee-pee out of Doom 3`s (I don`t mean the double barrell), as does Quakes pistol and machine guns. Explain to me how doom 3`s flash light looks better, it`s identical, except in single player doom3 you never got to see anyone else flashing one, where as in Q4, you do, and when you`ve got a five man squad sneaking round with their gun lights on, it looks amazing. And as for the outside enviroments, like JK2? please, they may not be the best enviroments in the game, but I think your exagerating now. It`s nothing like doom 3 at all, except in graphics, but using the same engine, which is in it`s infancy, set in alien bases, it`s going to look similar. I really like it, much more than F.E.A.R., which, in my opinion, got really boring really fast (oooh look, there`s that girl again....hmmm, I`ll stroll round another room filled with boxes and fire extinguishers, ooooh, 4 of the same enemies I`ve been shooting for the past 4 hours, that do exactly the same thing as last time, I`ll just activate my "Bullet time" to kill em, how original.....now...repeat till finish.) At least Quake 4 tries a little variation, and the scenes when you witness walkers fighting harvesters, or other marines fighting a war miles away, that looks cool as f**k. Needless to say, I like it. |

"This game ROCKS."
Singleplayer rocks, multiplayer bricks.

Man, I gotta flush my stash down the toidy. You be smokin' the good sh*t.
Better than FEAR? FEAR maintains the same high quality in both singleplayer and multiplayer.
Sure, I really like Quake 4 singleplayer quite a bit. Quake 4 multiplayer is like a downsize version of something-er-other.
FEAR has some of the finest graphics ever put in a PC game, and the AI is quite impressive.
Now I admit I haven't finished both games yet and if FEAR turns out to be boring I will post so... but it is hard to imagine with what I have found so far. |
