I'm gonna keep this short as its way past sleepy time...
I am thrilled at the engine, not a doubt there... I can't wait for game based on the engine... Such as Quake 4, and hopefully (wishing on a star) SOF3...
How ever I can look past scripting and all the other things, but I do believe that ID should have or haven't done to make it a better game... Such as the disapearing corpses, that should be a built in option... That sortof thing kindof gets me...
However all in all, ID did a wonderul job at recreating doom in a way that I can feel the original wasn't sacrificed... I give doom3 the game the ratinging it desrves without COOP a half score of 5/10
As for the engine itself, hell it deservers a 20/10... As unpresidented achievement bonus is in order...

Agreed. The limited MP part is a guarantee that people will want to create mods.
It certainly can't be long before we see a TDM mod for instance.
As for the game itself, I'm going through it right now, so I don't have a final opinion, but I like it a lot.
This first part with all the walking etc. and only talk isn't so bad, because you learn to make your way etc. Just like the training level in COD. However, while on the training level in COD, you knew what was going on, here I was scared shitless, because I expected someone to jump at me every moment. The creepyness kept building up.
Hehe, when that scientist finally cracked, I totally panicked and lost my bearings completely. When I later went back to the game, I was aiming my pistol at him while he was normal, just so I could shoot him as fast as possible when he got possessed.
Well, things go better now, although it seems like I'm constantly making things worse than they are.
Well. I also like the "personality" of UAC. It's the multinational corporation from Hell. All those ads and commercials in contrast to the harsh reality is quite typical, and it's obviously a new dimension. Although everyone recognize the logo from the first Doom, this time it's a realistic company.

ok, ill start with the bad parts ::
Personally i expected alil more, guess i was askin 2 much, the part i was looking forward 2 most was CO-OP i loved it on the old games and when i recieved doom3 and saw there was no CO-OP i nearly died of shock, also the weapon skins are not as i hoped, they dont seem 2 be as detailed as i thought, the shotgun for instance, it doesnt really look much like a shotgun and its alil plain, also some of the videos ingame, some of the modals looked like they were rushed and one video with that general guy n the other bold guy (i cant remember there names, 2 many names 2 remember as it is lol) there was light shining down on both of them and i dont know wheather its my grahics card( 256mb geforce 4 FX5200) but there head kind of rippled with light, its hard 2 explain, but it looked very fake and very computerised. they seem 2 have concentraied more on monsters, lighting, gameply than on modalling
no to the good points ::
the single player is awesome, even more scarier than the original, ingame graphics aart from the things mentioned above were very good the lighting in teh actual game is awesome, the new look of the monsters is great and the way the screen shakes where ur near them is good (especially with 5.1 surround sound).
the mappingh for D3 is also great, better than COD, its more funa nd theres more things 2 do, and it seems easier in some aspects yet can be more time consuming, on COD all my maps were villages and bridges etc, with doom3 its all inside which is something that i havent really done (apart from houses for cod) but its great, i have spent more time mapping than actully playing the game lol
i give the game 7/10
because : no co-op, sometimes the graphics aint always great (tho i guess nuthins perfect), bad online gameplay 4 players aint worth and doom isnt about deathmatch, we have Unreal Tournament 20004 for that, Doom3 is about kickin imps @sses n fighting 20 monsters at once, basicly complete mayhem...its all down to CO-OP, its the way forward in games, no1 wants 2 play alone, they want 2 play as a team, use tactics, help each other out without any dum bots what block u and stand there and shoot u more than the enemy

I'll just be quick:
Yep, Multiplayer is essential to the success of pc games these days... Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find servers in Australia yet (Well haven't really looked aye!), but cant help but find the selection slightly tiresome... Some new MP ideas, rejumbled from old ones though...
---> HERE COME THE MODS... seriously... I'm busy at study atm, but this summer, I'm gonna hit this engine hard on the mapping side of things... I'd love to think that the engine deserves the close attention of our most highly respected public domain nerds, so we can get some keen multiplayer mod ideas going... I'd like to see this engine in the light! maybe some outdoor on earth style settings, futuristic or not...
SINGLE PLAYER:
Ooooh baby... so I bought it straight away... so I played it till really late, with all the lights off and the speakers cranked... SO I WAS SCARRED FOR LIFE... man what a scary game!! Seriously... I've got mates who didn't agree, but man, I'm 23, and this game was way too intense to play hours on end... I clocked it like 3 weeks after buying it...
My first impression was that it had too many flickering lights, and was too dark, and almost too scary to be enjoyed fully... NAH... the more I played, the more theplot sunk in... sweet... what a sick game... and some of the levels, espcially towards the end look very impressive... Bravo...
Only quams are some lighting errors, like a fully lit room, with a pitch black wall --> You presume its a passage, but its a wall like the rest... (This is surprisingly common)... I'd prefer a very slow transition to absolute pitch black
Oh well... that was longer than I meant!!!!
Out of 10
Single player: 8.0 - 8.5
Modding potential: 10
My desire to make completely different style maps to see how they look: 10

Personally, I think the games great, a most definite 9 out of ten. Why not a ten. Simple, replay value. Once you've played throught it once, it just doesn't have the same impact second time round.
As for multiplayer, well I'm not a mp fan, I prefer sp. However I do understand why it's only limited to four players. I haven't yet seen a server with good enough ping times to warrant playing it - 450 ping anyone?
It was really designed for lan sessions, system requirements are just too hectic for online play.
That said, the modding aspect is what keeps me really busy. The enemies may be scripted but since I've just started scripting for the engine, the possibilities have widened. If your good enough, you can change their behaviour quite a bit.
