"Heretic was released as Shareware as a precursor to the full version of the game, Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders." (http://ravensoft.com/heretic.html) I think this is wrong. Wasn't "shadow" a free addon for the registered "heretic" (similar to the 4st Episode od Doom/Ultimate DooM) ? On ravengames you can read :"The story of the expansion pack starts where the original Heretic left off. You defeated D'Sparil and entered the portal, but instead of arriving home, you find yourself in D'Sparil's realm. You have to fight your way through these unfriendly lands. And somewhere in a corner of this world, D'Sparil's personal bodyguard already prepares for your coming..." ..And: www.ravengames.com Some correction, please!

SotSR, or Shadow of the Serpent Riders, is an afficial and free addon to Heretic, with epizodes Stagmant Demensne and another one. But I personaly call the whole series like that -they are all about serpent riders anyway. I think they wrote it that way because a game if it has expansions is mentioned with it's full name.

And how do you name the first full release? Let's have a look into the 'DOOM'-universe: DOOM is not ULTIMATE DOOM ... ...and Heretic is not SotSR.

DooM has no storyline, it really does not matter how you name it... The whole series except Heretic II is about Serpent Riders, and Shadow of the Serpent Riders name for an addon to Heretic is pretty bizzare. I like the name, and that is better to write than Heretic/heXen. It just tells what the game is about. Why heXen was called heXen? Who knows.

Heretic: Sotsr is the FINAL edition of heretic with two extra episodes. The 1.4 patch merely upgrades to that edition for free. The same goes for Doom vs. Ultimate Doom. You won't have much luck finding the original Heretic for sale as much as you'll find the shadows edition instead

L Heretic dosent realy have a story line either ,they tried to put one togather for HERETIC 2 but eh....
