Bah, that's nothing.
Here in sweden the gas costs about $1.67 / liter (or $6.30 / gal). The prices can go up to $6.66 / gal.
That is waaaaay much. I *think* nearly 60% of all that is taxes.

Quote (Peaceable Frood @ Sep. 02 2005, 10:00 pm)
Supply isn't a problem, OPEC could pump 100 billion barrels of oil tommorow...

anybody else think that the government releasing the strategic oil reserve is a ploy to get revenues into the government coffers to pay for the hurrican damage?

if supply isn't the problem, then why sell off the oil reserve? (unless you need the money..)*

just a thought

* the US government selling 60million barrels will cause an influx of $4.5billion US into the american economy and offset the economic crisis from the storm.  smart move.

Like I said many of the refineries were in the south, with their absense it's going to be tough to meet the demand of the consumer. Many gas stations around where I live do not have gasoline. This is probably the only way a crisis can be overted at the current time.

I work at a gas station and we ran out of midgrade and premium a day or two ago, and when the gas company brought us gas, they only brought regular unleaded.  Our price is $2.99/gallon at the moment.

I also heard today that around 400 people from down there(not sure which state they are coming from) are going to be bused into my county and housed in some of the camps that are around here.

I'm getting kind of lucky when it comes to this gas pinch.  Not only do I work from home (no gas consumption) but when I do drive i drive my Contour, which is pretty fuel efficient.  Also, this last week I was in San Diego for VoiceCon 2005, so no driving.  Also, I leave for Toronto on Tuesday (no driving) until Friday, when I fly to IL and a rental car for a week where work will pay for gas, whatever it is.

The Contour sips fuel.  The Santa Fe gulps it.

Congratulations. You have successfully managed to turn this topic about the devastating conditions in New Orleans and how bad and egoistic many individuals of the human race are into a discussion about gas prices and how much more money you now have to pay to keep your nifty cars running :D

:s10:

By the way, in germany you may find yourself to have to pay more than 7 USD per gallon.
