Finally got around to reformat my computer after all problems I've had with it (BSoD, random errors etc). Backed up everything I need (I hope, but it already to late because I have already redone all partitions), just need to start the installation.

Anything I should remember while reformatting? Already unplugged all USB stuff and the network cable.

I have found out how long a WinXP installation works, before the problems become to severe if it is being used (as in installing/uninstalling program/games) - 1 year 11 months 2 weeks (give or take a few days).

See you tomorrow if everythings goes as I like.

My friends computer has lasted 3 years so far without a format. Its slow as ####, and completely screwed.. but his still battling on. He refused to reformat for some bizarre reason.

Good luck anyway! Hope you dont lose anything.

When you're finished installing everything (drivers, programs, updates, etc.) it might be a good idea to do a ghost.  So next time, you won't have to redo it all.  My ghost saved my ass quite a few times.

Might also want to set a Windows Restore point as well.

I usually do a total (software) rebuild once a year...maybe a little less often than that.  Of course, some of them are unintentional.

Don't see why you have to unplug everything... WinXP knows what to do.

I hate reformatting. I only do it when necessary.

I just keep my computer clean and happy, and I have no problems, unless Windows decides to crap out on me for no apparent reason, like it has in the past. We just had to reinstall Windows on a friends computer because their kid screwed it up royally. The thing had at least 5 viruses, and more spyware/adware than I could count. They're Windows installation had gone to heck in a handbasket, after a few months at most. (We fix their computer on a regular basis.) To be honest, that kid shouldn't be allowed within 10 feet of that computer.

Same w/ Greg... Not so much because he doesn't know what he's doing, but because of the pain he inflicts on the internet community... as a whole.

I haven't reformated yet, I haven't had a problem that I couldn't fix. I guess I don't like to take the easy way out. :D

How strange!  I had problems earlier, so after reading this thread I decided to get my ghost back.  And then, all he11 broke loose.  It wasn't working...  I decided to reformat to get the ghost (on drive d:) and I formatted the WRONG disk.  Yep!  I formatted the D: drive.  Thank god I did a back-up of all my drivers and appz on DVD just before that.  I lost all my MP3s tho...  Oh well!
