Just thought I would touch a bit on another note, their fiscal results. They have taken a hit financially from the fated GFFX (fifth) series of graphics cards, dealt by ATI and felt all-around.

As predicted, the SM3.0 support on their sixth-generation of cards is going to lead to initial gains, of which they are starting to see now. They are neck-and-neck with ATI now, which is a start they see, to reposition themselves in the lead once again.

ATI put in a dead card to compete with the 6800 series. As I have said many times before, when their next serious competitor comes nVidia may be a step behind. ATI, forgetting the step to compete with the 6800, may have two steps ahead by the time they release a new card. Either way, both companies are in a dead-heat on which direction they will be taking next.

nVidia's SLI (Scalable Link Interface, reintroduced) will be a good factor for absolute hardcore enthusiasts. By placing two 6800 cards and linking them together, you obviously have very good results (and a very high bill, as well).

“We don't deny that ATI has a wonderful product and it took the performance lead from us,” said Jen-Hsun Huang, president and CEO of NVIDIA.

That was then, this is now.

“Q2 was challenging and disappointing as the desktop GPU segment declined significantly as a result of several unusual market events,” stated Jen-Hsun Huang. “Our bold strategy to bring a fundamentally new architecture to the PCI Express transition has resulted in winning key design wins in each segment.”

What unusual market events? I forgot, the introduction of ATI's X800 series and the lowered pricing of the 9800 PRO/XT still taking the lead. ATI has taken a financial lead according to analysts, that should last well into 2005. While nVidia, on the other hand is predicted to continue to fall and then raise up in 2005, level with ATI.
