I played mostly Quake 3, Quake for was a long time ago, and I didn't play Quake 2 at all. So all I will say here is based on Quake 3.
The arsenal of today's actions is a large problem - 5 or six weapons, and that's a very small arsenal. In fact, all weapons are more or less the same. I prefer large arsenals, and I don't really care where the player puts them. And I want an alternative fire too. The most famous weapon in Quake is probably the grenade launcher. I wouldn't mind if it would be able to fire three rockets at once. There was a funny weapon in Turok 2 Seeds of Evil, you find a target, fire, and three rockets haunt the target. It could be a rare and valuable weapon, set aside from the regular rocket launcher.
Then there is the railgun. A very curious invention. I would like if it killed instantly in the head, and broke through flesh or metal everywhere else. And I would have added a sniper mode to it, after an upgrade, maybe.
And speaking of all the weapons, make them more colourful. |

confirmed weapons so far,
Blaster, Hyper blaster, shotgun, 'machine gun', railgun(YES), nailgun (double YES), a new super weapon (not BFG) among others..........
U can expect most, if not all of Quake 2's weapons to return 'cept the BFG as i mentioned.
One more thing, the developers are saying that at one point, the weapons are moddable, as in upgradable to give them more ability. They say that it is completely optional to upgrade your weapons but if u do, it'll give u some cool new abilities.
And let's not forget our marine (Mathew kane with a name this time) gets to turn into a 'semi-Strogg' which means some kind of strogg weaponary or abilities are inevitable. Throw in a pilotable mech, hovertank and other vehicles and u have one mind boggling arsenal of mass destruction.
And fret not, Hard core Quakers !!! If u think Raven has modified ur favourite deathmatch arena, think again. Apparently, the mp game will have a very different pace than the sp campaign (READ: MUCH FASTER) and all the weapons will be available at its 'pure' form. Rejoiced !!! |

Well, hearing for Todd Hollenshead on Electric Playground and from all those magazine "exclusives", all the Quake weapons will pretty much be there. Shotgun, nailgun, machinegun, blaster, railgun, grenade and rocket launcher...
I'm all for a large arsenal, but make it fun and balanced. Games these days with big arsenals (there are few, but they exist) overpower a few and make the others useless. I think the only recent games with a good, balanced, and large arsenal were the serious sam and SOF games. |

Well, I don't remember anything like that in Turok 2, each weapon had its own use. You can, of course, go on with shredder, but after some time you will either run out, either die, so somewhere you used celebral bore, tek bow, mag 60, charged dart rifle. I even used pistol and old bow sometimes. |

There were alike weapons in Turok 2, and there was a replacement effect, but only two weapons were alike, not 6. Pistol and Mag 60, for instance. Pistol was used only when you paralize the enemy, but they used the same ammo. Tek bow and regular bow - tek has a sniper mode, in which it always fires straight, and it could use tek arros. But in melee, I used the old bow. Then shotgun and shredder - shredder replace the shotgun, again, same ammo. It's like a weapon upgrade, you know. First you had one weapon than you upgraded it to a stronger one. Same with talon and war blade. But, plasma rifle? Has some sniper mode, but loud, and shoots better han bow in melee. And firestorm cannon, uses the same ammo, looks like a machinegun. But is still better far than melee. Celebral Bore - I saw no replacement. Sunfire pods and charged dart rifle are quite alike though. Tranquilizator gun - never been able to use that weapon, it does nothing.
Anyway, I didn't say arsenal with 6 machine guns, were there such things in Turok 2? Play it first, then talk about same weapons. It's a problem of the developers imagination, that's all. If the developer can't think of anything? he repeats already existing weapons. But Raven never had problems with weapons in HeXen. 12 quite different weapons. And quake is not that far from HeXeN... of course, you won't put serpent staff in quake but if you take the hellstaff, make it look like a regular weapon... |
