I have some questions about how everything goes in HeXeN beyond Heretic. Mostly some secret places, and Seven Portals. Anyway, at the beginning of Winnowing Hall, after you go in, there are two walls with Korax on them, and if you come close, they turn around and start throwing fireballs. While they are turning, you can run in behind them, and there is a button there, but it doesn't work. What should I do there? The second thing, in the same level, again, at the beginning, if you turn right and look up, there is an opening, even the map showes it. How do I get there? And, I simply wouldn't not mind explained the way Seven Portals Hub works. |

The buttons behind those Korax walls are there in case you get stuck behind the rotating doors and they close on you, while you are back there.
That opening in winnowing hall is only accessible via deathmatch, there is a Mystic Urn up there. To get there, go to the place where all the golden doors retract back and forth, after you pass through there a golden door on the left will be open with a teleporter. This area only opens up in deathmatch.
The seven portals hub is all about find the six switches. Once you pull all 6 switches the exit door at the back will open. It would take too long to tell yah what each switch does, but as you flip each switch and you get the message that 1/6 of the puzzle has been solved, you have effectively opened up a new area to get to and find another switch. There are 2 switches in each area, fire, ice and steel, and can activate them in any order. Once you activate the first switch in each area, eg. fire, then the second area on the other side of the seven portals will open up and you can find the next switch. Once all six are activated the door at the back will open. Also after all six switches are pulled you can gain entry to different areas previously unaccessible, ex. In the guardian of ice, you can move into the machinery like area, and get access to a spot where you can get the bonus level, which is in the main area of the seven portals, you know where those fire gargoyles are behind the pillars. |

Funny, the thing is, I found only switches that said 1/3 and 1/2. And I recently opened that level, Bright Crucible, puts you into a funny situation with a storm of Chaos Serpents and stalkers. I had serpent staff back then, had problems getting it - it was in guardian of steel for some reason, though mage and warrior got their second weapons sooner. Suppose serpent staff is too powerful, in fact, clerics fletchets are quite good to use, you can leave a poison gust, and lure some low-ai monsters to it. Sometimes, though, I hurt more myself with it. |
