Just say this story over at WindowsITPro.com, apparently AMD has filed an antitrust suit against Intel.

Go AMD!

I wanna see you two fight to the death a la Kirk/Spock.  I bet we could sell tickets... maybe a double feature w/ Speed and Carver fighting those creatures from the Episode II arena armed only with sporks and little packets of sugar...

I'm all for AMD in this.  I hope they get a favorable ruling.  The reason I was against the MS anti-trust case was because, to my knowledge anyway, people were just whining instead of creating a demonstrably superior or competitve product.  I don't really count Apple in this PC crowd because they use proprietary parts that their software is designed to run on.  If anything, MS could have said that Apple was monopolistic for that hardware.

IMO, any industry is going to have a clear majority leader early on.  You can't just whine and say "they are monopolistic" without trying to break into the market.  AMD has tried, and tried, and tried, to break in.  And they have succeeded to a degree, but Intel has been unfair in it's business practices.  AFAIK, MS had no such similar competition that they squashed in th OS market.  The browser market, yes, but not OS.

Good post; a lack of supeiority is no good reason to sue. AMD on the other hand, consistently produces a superior product.

So if I make cookies, and someone else makes cookies worse than mine, but they sell more and I lose marketshare, it's okay to sue them for creating a monopoly because my cookies are better, so I should win.

Oh and btw, Microsoft was not sued because they had an OS monopoly, they got sued because they tried to use that monopoly to create other monopolies and maybe not allowing OEMs that do business with Microsoft to bundle any other OS with their hardware. (which is exactly what you claim Intel is doing, so why the hypocrisy) How about how Microsoft frauded Caldera when they licensed them crappier APIs claiming they were exactly the same APIs that Microsoft uses when in reality Microsoft had better secret APIs that they used. How about making a compeitiors program run slower than Microsofts product?

Ofcourse if we lived in a true free market, ther would be no monopolies as intellectual property would not exist and therefore they could not shut out competitors from entering the market.
