Heretic and HeXeN have a dark, scary, and mysterious athmosphere. They have a number of interesting weapons, and in HeXeN beyond Heretic they had different effects in ranged and melee attacks! The levels had an excellent design, compare to DooM's - DooM's is boring! HeXeN had many riddles that not much could solve at once. HeXeN was unlinear in some places. And enemies were all very different - you had to adapt to them, in HeXeN, you had to use tactics to survive on the highest difficulty level, especially if you are a cleric. And inventory! Where did that brilliant invention dissappear in Heretic II? How can you even compare these four best games of all time to Soldier of Fortune?! I played a demo of that game. When I she he name, I expected a game with a setting of some gallant army warrior, a sniper maybe, I was reminded of the movie "Enemy at the Gates". And what did I see? Weapons - well they are the same in all war games... But enemies, why do the behave like idiots, why do they look like mercenaries from FarCry, why the heads blow of? Monsters didn't behave like that in HeXeN The Beginning of the End. It is normal for limbs and heads to fall of from monsters, not humans. I don't remember someones head blowing up from a simple shotgun. It looks stupid, it's not even violance. And locations? City, I hate cities. Yes, I'm crazy, because I love mountains, pyramids, catacombs, swamps and other much more colourfull places. And what kind of support Raven needs? If it made a new game, in fantasy, I would have given it all my support. But what should I support? Quake 4? It is on DooM 3 Engine, and lookes like a DooM 3 clone. If they made somethig fantasy on DooM 3 Engine, I would have supported it, I don't care about graphics. But no, the wise raven of the company has died when the Raven of Pathoris has stopped fighting (Corvus means "Raven" in Latin). It's all now, fantasy action is dead, forever. |

im not trying to play down the classic hexen and heretic games, they are obviously CLASSICS and at the time groundbreaking and revolutionary! but nowadays they would not be able to hold the "young" audiance on the pc,... and yea SOF is a straight FPS, and that is exactly what they where trying to do, they didnt say "SOF - the newest in adventure RPG wizadry" they said "SOF - pure FPS"... and for beeing that it was an excelent game! the damage system was just fun imho, there was something diabolicly hilarious about shooting your enemies to bits... unlike any other game so far! ---- thus revolutionary in a way! Elite Force was revolutionary as it was the first Star Trek game that was REALY REALY good and attracted alot of not trekkies to the ST franchise. and also EF was a VERY good FPSif raven came out tomorrow and said it was working on a new hexen or heretic, trust me im sure alot of the people on this board would to frantic out of excitment! as for Ravens current productions Quake 4 from what ive seen does NOT necercery look like doom3! the interior levels might, but then its hard to creat inovatinv hallway designs that dont look like alien or other classic movies and games that just gave us the look of a futuristic spacecraft. its just the way we think it looks "realistic" i would definately not say Q4 is a D3 clone! Raven has allways till now put its own magic at work to make IDs engine that little bit better looking as for XmenL i cant say as i havnt played the first part, because it was a console only RPG-in a way game |

Well, the way people are blasted into bits - it was used before, in a game named Turok 2, a very good game, in fact. And the fact that people don't play games like Hexen and Heretic - I don't think so. Why do they play games like Morrowind then? If something new like that will come out, and if it's made the right way, a lot of people will like it. The problem is, Raven doesn't want to worry itself with such trouble, better take id's game and make a new version... |
