Here is something pretty cool. Pay attention to the last one. I saw this gametype with Rune HOV. Really liked it.

Game types:
"Deathmatch" - An every-marine-for-himself slugfest. If you’re the marine with the most kills when time runs out, you win.
"Team DM" - Pair-up and compete to be the team with the most kills before time runs out.
"Last Man" - Each marine has a limited number of lives. If all others have fallen and you’re the last marine standing, you win.
"Tourney" - Two marines battle one-on-one while others watch and wait as spectators. When the battle’s over, the first spectator in line becomes the new opponent while the loser moves to the end of the spectator line. The victor remains in the combat arena until defeated by another marine.

Makes sense there's no CTF, heh. With four players, I fail to see how DM is even worth playing more than once in a blue moon...are the maps kinda small..? What's the netcode like, lool?

In Rune HOV the Tourney Style was like this. It's like the first two players chose the weapons or weapon of choice, 4 or 5 different kinds of swords, hammers, battleaxes, shields.
There was a countdown which at it's end the two players were transported down below into the Arena. Meanwhile any new players were assigned numbers so they could take their turns as a player died. In the upper chamber you could look down on the battle below. In the upper chamber all the weapons and shields were available. In the upper chamber no player could harm the other player. Pretty cool.
Of course with the weaponry in Doom3 you would probably make available all weapons or just one weapon since everybody would have to be armed alike.
The winner of the arena would be rewarded with full health to take on the next opponent.
I haven't looked at the Tourney level in Doom3 yet so don't know if that is how they have it set up. I hope it is.

I'll bet it'll be similar to Q3 tourny, heh, can't add much of a twist to standard dm types that consist of only 4 players...and no, I'll never stop ragging about this, sorry Johnny!!

:) I still say Jobs has taken a healthy Windose of his medicine and is playing Doom 3. If not, I'm sure he'll be waiting for HL2...it's a fact now, every gamer who can truely be called that, is going for Doom 3 or HL2 (or both). It's really that simple.

I am also waiting for HL2. My only problem is I will probably turn 60 before I get a broadband connection. Or they hang a satellite over my house. lol I would love to play both of these online with a low ping. Guess I could pack my puter up and move into a hotel with broadband on the weekends. hehe

hehe, :) I almost thought I had good news, but I forgot you have sat. so the netcode for HL2 won't mean anything to you...it's all about the latency when you have sat, lol

:( At least MMORPGs should play OK on your connection..?

4 players is default, but you can have as many as you like (within reason) from what I've read.

I just think it's all very fishy, most games have like 16-32 for default.

:/ I'm not interested much in anything but coop on LAN so I can setup one with my friend in the future really, so I guess it doesn't really matter anyway.

I still stand by my idea that Doom 3 is not as much of a game as it is a game engine.

I think that this game was created to show off the engine for licensing. Therefore, they had an obligation to show the engine off the best they could and that meant limiting the number of simultaneous players in order to boost the graphics quality.
