Their are no winners in a nuclear war, sure you could be lucky(?) and be not in the kill zone and die quickly. It might take 24 days, but you will still die. Nothing will grow in Radioactive soil, and the farm animals will die too. The fruit on the trees will be Radioactive. I hope it never happens.

Would it act like an EMP, as that was my theory, but i was not sure

IIRC all nuclear blasts create an EMP.

Well, in the event of a nuclear war, just head to the southern hemispehere, aside from Australia there are no targets down there that the nuclear powers would attack.

Yeah, you'll be fine until it rains and sprinkles radioactive water all over whatever tropical paradise you've run away too.  Or perhaps the huge clouds of dust and smoke that would blot out the sun for months (if not years) might finish you off.

Personally, I'm heading for the moon.

Im guessing u have not seen the movie on the beach, here is a review http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/encyclopedia/O/On/On_the_Beach.htm

There is also a more recent version but i could not find it and it follows the same story line, but with a few differences

Well, they're just helping people think that in the event of a nuclear attack they might have a chance. I for one would like to see a picture with the blast radius, and a "you are here, but not for long" pointing at the impending vaporization. :p

In the event of a nuclear attack, stay where you are because you're as safe there as when you're running around like a chicken with it's head cut off. You're dead either way. :p
