I think 'These are the Voyages' missed the mark on many levels.  There could have been a much better device for bringing Riker and Troi into the mix than the 'Pegasus' incident.  Have it be something to do with his new mission on the 'Titan'.  Create (or even blue screen) the Titan's holodeck and there you go.  His mentioning in Nemesis that his new mission on the Titan had to do with the Romulans would have been a great jumping off point for showing the Enterprise fighting in the last mission of the Romulan War with Earth.  Have Trip die in that and bingo, you've got a little better story than they ended up with.

Why have Trip die at all. That irked me in all the worst ways possible. Why kill off many peoples favortite character so nonchalantly? It was incredibly useless. One more dagger in the eyes of fans. Also why not let us hear some of Archers speech, or see him sign the charter or something. It ended so abruptly. It seemed like this episode was all about Riker trying to decide how to tell Picard about the cloaking device. I knew as soon as it was announced that B&B were producing this episode without Manny Cato that it would be a cellar-dweller of a finale. Even Voyager had a better ending, and it was disappointing. They really did a half-***ed job if you ask me.

Terra-Prime on the other hand I very much enjoyed, although the death of Elizabeth was a bit of a bummer, but Trip's acting at the end was truly magnificent. I guess without his "child" dying we wouldn't have gotten that bit. And Archer's speech at the end was awesome. They should've signed the Federation charter right then and there.

[Note - spoilers below]

I agree..."These are the voyages..." could have been better...Killing Trip off - just plain bad.  Also, who was to know that the cook was such a confidant?  Where did he come from?   From the way the crew acted, he must've been Alurian (one of Guinan's people)!  Several other things too, but there were a few things to like about it.

- I like that it DIDN'T take place right after The second part of the Terra Prime ep. (Wasn't that called "Demons"?)  Having it take place several years later with both the crew and the ship intact allows for an infinite number of missions to be written about in books and referenced further productions.

- I like the reference to "All Good Things"...

- Data's voice-over cameo (although, pretty stupid; I would think he'd know the expression "raincheck" by TNG's 7th season...)

- The rebuilt sets of the 1701-D were flawless - I counted 4 :  The Holdeck (with the corridor shot), 10-Forward, the meeting room behind the Bridge (I can't remember what it's called) and Troi's quarters.  There might be one or 2 others.  I only watched the episode once so far.

- The ending showing the 3 TV Enterprises,  plus the voiceovers.  (Actually, any excuse to show new footage of the 1701 works with me!)

Uh...I guess that's it.  Well, there are probably a few other things I can't recall at the moment.  But, I agree with the above...It seemed rushed.  I, too, would have prefered a Titan story.  Actually, when I heard Riker and Troi were going to be guesting, that's what I figured the story would involve.  Not a "between scene" subplot of a previous TNG episode.  (Anybody notice that the Elite Force Expansion CD is the same thing?)  And correct me if I'm wrong, but I though Riker didn't fess up to Picard and spill the beans about the cloaking device until after the Enterprise was trapped inside the asteriod.  I have it on tape...somewhere...

Yeah Riker only spilled the beans when the situation called for the phase-cloak to be utilized in getting the Enterprise out of the asteroid. And I highly doubt he would've told Troi something of that magnitude, when he wouldn't even tell his own Captain.

I know it's a little late, but I just got the chance to watch Terra Prime and These are the Voyages....  Terra Prime was excellent, absolutely what I will consider to be the end of Enterprise.  Because These are the Voyages, while having some nice sequences, was crap.  They totally diminished Riker's character by making him struggle with doing the right thing for so long, whereas in the Pegasus episode it was pretty much a little bit of contemplation but easily deciding to do the right thing.  And they made Trip worthless too.  If you're going to kill yourself, it completely devalues everything you've fought for because obviously it's not worth working at solving the problem without dying.
