Here's how you can access the doom 3 editor.

- by typing editor at the console or by passing +editor on the command line

In some cases, you may find the the editor doesn't seem to work. I haven't had a chance to play with it, but I think the solution is:
- doom saves the doom.qe4 to the top directory instead of saving to base/
- copy it to base/

If you keep losing your mouse pointer (I did) when running the editor, then try running the game in windowed mode.

To switch from the editor view back to the game view, hit F2

To test your map, you may have to close the editor and run the game. There, you can devmap your new level and test it.

For my shortcut, I put this in the shortcut (huh?)

like this

"D:Doom 3Doom3.exe" +disconnect +set r_gamma 1 +set r_brightness 1 +set r_mode 7 +set r_fullscreen 0 +editor

now, this shortcut to the editor opens it widowed, and at the desktop res (which isnt my ingame res) not, new but fun to me [tongue]

I load the editor from the new target modified shortcut and do not see any problems with the mouse pointer as yet. Just went back in to make sure. So as Foyleman suggests in the tutorial you have two options.

Another thing I have found in the Editor/Preferences where it says Views/Rendering you do not have the option to change the layout as in other versions of Radiant.
Once you move the Grid, Cam, Z and Inspectors windows it remembers the positions upon reloading the editor.

I have never modded anything before, so I probably shouldn't start with Doom 3, but I just beat it and I loved it. So I'm familiar with the style, lighting, textures, monitors, sparks/steam, the general stuff. There aren't really tutorials out there for Doom 3 yet that let you start from scratch - but everyone seems to agree the editor is similar to others. Can somebody please link me to a tutorial for a similar editor to get me started. Please realize that when I click and drag a box on the editor I don't even know what I have created, if anything. I need something that starts from the bare, bare bones. Thanks. [tongue] [tongue]

funny.. I am just now posting the first video tutorial on making your first map. Check it out. download

also, you should check out the tutorial on setting up the editor. It's a written tutorial in the tutorials section (linked on the left). It's simple.

I suggest you start with this game since you are interested in it. The tutorials will be coming and you might as well get used to the game you love. [wink]

OMFG it must be a sign or something. I spotted this video before I saw your forum update. When I saw it was downloaded 0 times I began wondering - but it all becomes amazingly clear. I feel special as the first download! Thanks foyleman, you'll probably be seeing me around here more and more.
