Yeah but james bond can do that because they can make their movies rated R.  
Trek can't be anymore then PG-13 at best, and that's pushing it.
Plus, james bond is a loner.  If you have the entire show based solely around the captain of a starship, it get's borring.

Also you've got... what?  20 bond flics vs 1000+ trek episodes over roughly the same span of time?

I am simply talking about core elements that, regardless of locale, keep the audience emotionally involved.

It is in Open Range, all Bond films, Gone with the Wind (a 1936 book turned into a film that is for all audiences)... and was present in the original Star Trek.  The later Trek series kept the multi-cultural, strange new worlds and peripheral stuff.  But it just didn't get the core (which I have already stated a few times).

Just my perspective... no big deal.

Very true, there were certain core elements that were continued from TOS to TNG, but I'm assuming that they did it because TOS only lasted 4 seasons and since it was 20 years from TOS to TNG, they probably felt that they should turn it into something different, although I do remember something about Gene himself wanting a more "family" oriented show, not the "hero cowboy" type that TOS was.  He only did it that way to actually get the show out there.

And I like other perspecitves.  I find it benficial to be able to understand the perspecitves of others and use them to reflect upon your own.  Perhaps even improve.:)

Oh please if that ever happend i would kill myself.

There would be nothing worse. ok maybe something but that is comming right up there.

A starfleet academy show would be cool,  but never in a million years should it be anything even closly like the OC
