I have been working on my rock wall texture.  The texture has been saved as a .jpg.  I then open it up and work on it, but when i hit the "save" button (not the "save as" button) it keeps wanting to save it as a .psd.

This is anoying because now I got to go an change it everytime back to a .jpg!!

Is this normal?  Am I normal?  (forget that last quesiton)
What can be done if anything or do I have to live with it?

:s1: Thanks, that is a very good piece of knowledge to know.

I will not be so annoyed now in the future.

Yeah, you also lose all your layers... When you're making a texture, you want to keep it as .psd, so all your layers are saved intact and you don't lose quality.  Then, just use 'save as' and choose 'jpg' from the list.  That'll save a copy of the image as a jpg.  Then just keep resaving over that.  When I'm working on a 3d model, I have a folder called 'textures' with all the .jpgs in it.  Then under that I have a 'PSD' folder w/ all the psd versions of my textures.

And while Paracyte's right about jpgs eventually deteriorating if you keep resaving them (That's editing it as a jpg, then just clicking 'save,' not if you're saving a copy of a .psd over a jpg).  However, there's really no need to use tgas for everything.  In-game, you'll hardly notice the difference between a tga and a 'first generation' (just saved) jpg.  You will notice a difference in file size, though.

Fair enough, Paracyte, but honestly most people use Jpeg, so let's not confuse the new guy.

Heck, I even use jpgs for my 3DModeling.  I just make 'em big with low compression.

Sometimes shaders mess up with jpg files, they never do with tga. Secondly, in certain games the editor/game looks for tga's in a folder, if it can't find any tga's, the textures do not show up in the texture list
