buy an ASUS A8N-SLI deluxe w/ 2x 6600GT's for SLI mode and get started building a new PC. (I saw them in stock at my local comp-shop yesterday. the future is now)

ya. its a 64bit platform (nForce4), it supports Athlon64 and Athlon64FX

IIRC Longhorn will require special firmware and make all your old Hardware obsolete.

if true, MS would lose the upgrade market. Longhorn would launch, and nobody would rush out and buy it. (Joe Public would rather wait a year (or more) until he buys a new PC) so MS would lose the retail market in favor of OEM. seems to me thats why they are waiting to release Longhorn.. they are trying to build the retail/upgrade market first, before they launch it.. (since there isn't enough 64bit hardware in use ATM to justify the launch of a 64bit OS : there's no market for it yet) ..they are waiting for AMD/intel to sell enough 64bit hardware to create a market for their 64bit OS--> -->so then they can just release it already, and sell a few million copies on day one. (its the only way they can get that 90% market share, all at once) BUT: if they release longhorn to a retail market where nobody even needs it / can't use it / needs new firmware to run it.. ..then the only sales they get will be OEM, which will only trickle in over time. it will take years to recapture the market share of WinXP. (and with Linux looming on the horizon, thats not a smart thing to do) (through Mozilla, open source has already claimed their 'Email' and 'Browser' programs; the windows OS will be next to fall) (MS must create as much demand as they possibly can for Longhorn; cutting themselves off from the 'upgrade' market would be suicide) the best thing they can do, is wait until everybody is running 64bit hardware on nForce4 (for which we will all buy an OEM copy of WinXP hehe) and then force us all to upgrade to their 64bit OS when the time comes.LOL! (and now we all just bought TWO OS'es for each of our 'new' computers. heh)
